My Payment Terms (Advice Needed)
Permalink Closed

I want you to read my terms of sale and tell me if I sound too nasty.  I want to be firm, but not scare people away, and... err... I am kind of known for being a bit abbrasive.  Honest feedback is appreciated. TIA

MY PAYMENT TERMS (PLEASE READ AS I HAVE HAD MANY RECENT PROBLEMS WITH PEOPLE NOT FOLLOWING MY TERMS OF SALE): I ACCEPT PAYPAL PAYMENTS BUT YOU CAN ONLY PAY WITH PAYPAL VIA AN INSTANT BANK TRANSFER OR WITH FUNDS YOU ALREADY HAVE IN YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT.  I DO NO ACCEPT CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS; DEBIT CARDS ARE A FORM OF CREDIT CARD PAYMENT, SO DON'T TRY TO PAY ME WITH YOUR DEBIT CARD AS YOUR PAYMENT WILL BE DENIED, AND I WILL NOT BE SENDING YOU ANY NICE EMAILS EXPLAINING AND ASKING FOR A DIFFERENT FORM OF PAYMENT - IT'S A WAIST OF TIME.  YOU MAY ALSO PAY BY SENDING A CASHIER'S CHECK OR MONEY ORDER.  I WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING PERSONAL CHECKS ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY ARE NOTHING SHORT OF A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS.  DO NOT BID IF YOU CANNOT ABIDE BY MY TERMS.  ALSO, YOU HAVE TEN DAYS TO PAY.  I AM TIRED OF PEOPLE PAYING LATE.  IF YOU DON'T PAY ON TIME YOU WILL BE REPORTED TO EBAY AND THE ITEM WILL BE IMMEDIATELY RELISTED.  ALL THAT BEING WRITTEN, I REALLY AM AN EASY GOING PERSON, IT'S JUST THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DIDN'T ABIDE BY MY TERMS IN THE PAST CAUSING ME A TON OF GRIEF. I DON'T MAKE THAT MUCH MONEY ON THESE SALES - A COUPLE OF BUCKS - SO IT JUST DOESN'T PAY ENOUGH TO TAKE THE GRIEF.  I AM BEING FIRM NOW TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS.  CHECK MY FEEDBACK AND YOU WILL SEE I HAVE PERFECT SCORES AND MAKE ALL MY CUSTOMERS HAPPY!

Everythings sounds good, right to the point and not too scary. Maybe cut out the word "ASS"? I think the word "ASS" in there is a little too much, but thats just my opinion

How long is it by the way when you have it in normal font? It just seems really long and not worth dealing with in that size. Otherwise I think its fine but I'm extremely blunt also.

Also I didn't know that debit cards were considered credit cards by paypal.  Thanks for the heads up.  I usually just pay through my checking account anyways.

Just an FYI, it's not just paypal that treats debit cards as credit cards.  They are a form of credit cards, hence that Visa or MC logo ;) .  The whole thing a lot of consumer's may not realize is that all merchants are charged a CC fee; this rate varies anywhere from 1.5% to over 3%, plus fees.  The debit card has those same fee's for the merchant. That's why it isn't for a small time dealer like myself to get involved with that (Paypal charges an exhorbatent (sp) amount for merchant fees).

ETA: I don't want to change the font.  It is long weather it's written big or small :) .

hmm strange because some places I go ask if its debit or credit because if they run it one way or another it saves them the fees. I guess that's why I thought debit=checking acct.

You're right too.  Debit comes out of your checking account.  It's just merchants are charged fees.  I don't know if it is different for certain merchants, but at least retail merchants are charged fees.

it might be based on the type of place you run or who your merchant is.  Who knows.

It is so annoying that ebay is becoming such a hassle for so many good sellers.

OKAY - If I can be honest, I do think it is a little harsh.  Well, not harsh, just a bit emotional.  If it were me and I read that, I probably wouldn't bother bidding on your item.  I'd take out the emotion and make it more straight forward, like this...

MY PAYMENT TERMS (PLEASE READ AS I HAVE HAD MANY RECENT PROBLEMS WITH PEOPLE NOT FOLLOWING MY TERMS OF SALE):

I ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING FORMS OF PAYMENT:

  • PAYPAL PAYMENTS VIA AN INSTANT BANK TRANSFER OR WITH FUNDS YOU ALREADY HAVE IN YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT
  • MONEY ORDER
  • CASHIERS CHECK

I DO NO ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS OR DEBIT CARD PAYMENTS THRU PAYPAL, NOR DO I ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS.   NO EXCEPTIONS!!

YOU HAVE TEN DAYS TO PAY.  IF YOU DO NOT PAY ON TIME YOU WILL BE REPORTED TO EBAY AND THE ITEM WILL BE IMMEDIATELY RELISTED.

DO NOT BID IF YOU CANNOT ABIDE BY MY TERMS.

I love it, Luckylilly. I know what you mean about being annoyed with the emotion. I sensed that, but sometimes I guess I cannot help myself.  Plus, I wrote that after having ANOTHER round of people pay me with their credit/debit cards.  I will copy and paste that as my terms of agreement. It seems much more appropriate for business purposes.

Honestly, 10 days is too long.  I always say three days to pay.  I am paid 95% of the time.  People that can't pay in 3 days either contact me and we work it out, or if they seem to be deadbeat, I will contact them on the third day- and usually leave neg. feedback after 7 days of no word.  If you say 10 days, you'll get a lot of bums.

I agree that 10 days is too long to allow them to pay, and I think maybe you could flip that "you are easy going, etc" first & then say "with that being said" ..... list terms. I recently found this under a seller's terms & thought it was the funniest thing I ever read:

>>> I WON'T Deal with Jerks, if your miserable, Mean, nasty, Rude please bid on someone else's auctions, I just don't need the headache and I don't want to work with people that don't know how to treat others ! I am a real person, not a robot & this is not a warehouse or store. I like to keep things nice and easy for me and you, Ebay should be fun, I want you to be happy and I want to stay sane, LOL !

I might buy something from her just because she's a smart a**, but maybe it's just me

I agree with this wording. I think you sounded really mean and harsh.. (no offense!) and not friendly or cooperative, which is what people shopping ebay look for (I know I do). Luckylily's wording gets your point across perfectly.. I know I wouldn't bid if you left what you originally had on there.. I'd be scared! :)

Like this version better . Also is it suppose to say: I DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS OR DEBIT CARDS? I read it as I do no accept credit cards........

If you are going to say "I do no" then you should take "accept" out and say " I do no credit cards"...........am I making any sense? Sometimes I just ramble on.
