i actually prefer sneaks without laces normally (unless i'm running), but these look a little odd to me - like someone just removed the laces. also, it looks like there is nothing to help them stay on. thanks for posting though; they're def. worth looking into.
The tongue is sewn to the sides of the shoe (where the gromets are), and there is a piece of elastic behind that, so there is some stretch getting them on. They don't fall off -- I've worn them and I have a high arch so I'm constantly stepping out of my shoes. I have no problem with these.
I see no reason to own or wear any other sneakers. Converse is an international classic.
I'm old-school too, so I've been wearing versions of these since I was probably 10 years old (in those days we wore Kmart knockoffs). Not everyone finds them comfortable for walking or long periods, so I think you kind of have to get used to the fit.
Being middle aged, I now favor Converse's Jack Purcells over All-Stars, because they're slightly more grown-up - or at least, I don't want to look like I'm trying to be 25 again. Here's a pair in a similar color to the ones above:
My ex husband's mistress (not girlfriend...sex buddy) wore converse. So, uhm... I hate them. And baseball caps for the same reason...just saying. Not me.
But I do like similar styles with a little more femininity, I have two pairs of RocketDog skimmers that I totally love!

thanks girls! i'm still totally torn on this issue. i definitely don't want to look like i'm trying to be 25 again, but i can't find any other hanging out sneaks that i like. uggh. any more opinions are welcome!
I vote converse. you like them so who cares what others think! I live in my black one's and they are so comfortable! I never put insoles....too comfortable for me without. So yup, I say go with Converse. Once you go there, you won't go back ;)

Those are really cute. Aaahh....Kmart knockoffs. You'd think I would have more of a complex about converse than I do. While running laps in seventh grade gym class (at the the height of the 80s colorful converse craze), one of my classmates called out angrily across the gym at me, "those are NOT Converse! Fake! Fake converse! ha ha ha!" --or something on the lines of that. Very embarrassing.
I don't own any converse right now, but I am not opposed to getting a pair.
i love my chucks...i wear them more like the second pic...with straight jeans... I have the ones with no laces in dark greyand i have no problems with them slipping off...
