makeup or beauty book recommendation?
Permalink Closed

Hey girls, I am in a half.com and amazon books kind of mood.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a book about makeup and beauty that is fairly relevant to current trends? I have Bobbi Brown Beauty from 1997 and it's good, but I want something with newer styling.

And while I am asking about books, any other books about fashion and style would be helpful. Even though I usually just turn to ST for inspiration anyway...I just love books.

Hmm I haven't run across anything recently but if you want a book on how to do/make beauty products at home (like peppermint foot scrubs or facial masks) you should try beauty magic. It is an old book so you'd probably only be able to find it used. I bought another book similar to that over the weekend. I'll dig through my book loot and find the title just in case.

How about Carmindy's book?

I personally always am disappointed by beauty books.  I've read Bobbi Brown, Kevin Aucoin, and more, and am always annoyed by the stupid advice like "Mix shades of foundation to find your right color"  its like DUH, why did I pay $30 to read what I already know???

If you want a little bit of a longer read without many pictures, I loved Jean Godfrey June's book (the lucky beauty director) called Free Gift With Purchase. If you want a really long but hugely interesting read, I recommend a book called "War Paint." It's about the rivalry between Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubenstein. My all time favorite makeup book (with AMAZING pictures) is by NARS called Makeup Your Mind. On days when I'm in a beauty rut, I use this book. All NARS makeup, and all pictures.
