ok something scary just happened and i am so glad my cc company was on top of things. they called this morning to verify some charges and i've gotten calls like this before and they just go over recent activity and i usually never think twice, like yeah, yeah that was me but thanks for calling you know? but today when they called they told me someone had charged $8000 to my cc at a vegas casino last night! and the freaky part is i have my card in my possession, haven't lost it and was also using it last night (gas, dinner) so what happened was someone in the past few days somehow got my information, made themselves a card w/ their name on it, signed that back and went crazy in vegas! isn't that nuts? apparently, there are these devices as small as a pager that are able to scan the magnetic strip on your card, and then the person on their computer can just MAKE themselves a cc, put your number on it and their name so they can use their id--freaky! so anyway, there's surveillance cameras and stuff so the person will be prosecuted that took my card and bank of america is taking it up w/ the casino because the casino should've verified such large transactions w/ the bank and dropped the ball for not doing so. oh and they knew to call because the simultaneous charges in different locations tipped them off and they also monitor where i use my cc. oh and i usually get calls from them when i haven't used my cc in a while and then all of a sudden start using (like after i lifted my self-imposed shopping ban, they called me that day, isn't that funny?). so anyway, i'm not being charged anything and i think it's really decent of bank of america to be watching out for me like that.
by the way, in case anyone wants to open up an account w/ them--get the "money return" card, it gives cash back, has a low apr and no annual fee.
That's awesome, I'm so glad it was all figured out.
I've had accounts at BoA for 15 years and I've never had a problem with them. I've also had my card stolen and have had to file dispute claims for charges that weren't mine. They've handled the problems beautifully each time.
I'm so happy to hear this...because I am a client manager for the company that sells the software to alert them to this type of activity so that they can call you! Yay! It appears to be working well (but I already knew that )!
well, i opened up my checking account when i graduated high school (1995) and i've never had any problems but then i've never really had to call cs for anything either. their cc's cs i can definitely vouch for though not just because of this latest incident but i paid my bill late a couple of times (i know, bad esquiress ) and all i'd have to do is call and they'd always take off the late penalty fee and whatever finance charge had accrued. so that was nice.

This has happened to me as well (bad Lilykind...yes I know) and the BoA cs is sooo nice about things. Plus since I have a checking and a savings account with BoA as well, they've been so patient with me shuffling money around. I have had nothing but good service from them.
