ebay or plato's closet?
Permalink Closed

I have clothes that do not have tags, are never worn, but from last year.  Would I make more money on ebay or at Plato's Closet? I heard you dont make much money at Plato's Closet...but it saves the effort of typing descriptions for the 2 large boxes of clothes I have.  If I would make more on ebay, then I dont care, Ill just do the descriptions.  The brands are mainly Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Bebe, Guess, Forever 21, and others similar to these. They will probably sell for about 5 bucks on average on ebay... a FRACTION of what I paid for them but thats what I get for buying things I wont wear. So what should I do?? Thanks!!

I personally would do Plato's closet because listing on ebay takes a lot of time and sometimes time is worth more than money in some cases.

I say if you don't care about the time it takes, list them on ebay and then take whatever doesn't sell to Plato's Closet.  If they don't sell, at least Plato's Closet will get rid of it for you (if it is like any consignment store I've dealt with).  I don't think you will make very much money for the items you mention though.  Most consignment stores keep half of the profits.  The most I ever got for an item was $40 for a BCBG gown that had cost $450.  Unless you are bringing, like, couture, you really won't get too much at all.  They may not even take the Forever 21 stuff.  Or maybe the ones by me are just really picky.  They always want designer names only.

I took some stuff to plato's closet last year, like 2 garbage bags full of clothes. They only took a few items. They said something to the extent that they take only certain brands and it has to be from a recent season/year I don't remember how old is too old. Anywho.. this might be the one that I went to because they had just opened and maybe they were trying to get a really good base set of slothes to sell.

the Plato's closet near me is extemely picky...they mostly take Abercromie,AE, Hollister, banana, etc.-and i think their policy is that they won't take it if it's from more than a season and a half ago--might be 2 seasons...don't remember exactly-but it's something like that---and it has to be in almost perfect condition too- no small holes or anything! even if it looks like it is too worn, they won't take it

but i've never sold anything on ebay, even though i hope to soon, so I don't know which would be better

I would try a few things on Ebay first and then go to Platos closet.  They are extremely picky about stuff and if it wasn't this season or last season they won't take it. What they do take they only give you $2-3 for.
