Once again, jmango the clueless needs help. I'm going to nyc this weekend to meet up with a friend that i haven't seen in 8 years (swanky euro guy)...........its a "one that got away" situation- weve never dated- always wanted to
but i have NOTHING to wear. my wardrobe is full of solid basics (black, grey, navy, white, khaki) -i wish i was exaggerating.........(recently lost weight, but haven't reached my goal yet)
guys, i'm really working myself into a state over what to wear!
Here are my activities for the weekend so far -movie with a local (nyc) friend early friday evening -late dinner/dessert friday night -sightseeing during the day on saturday -dinner saturday night -brunch on sunday- (maybe church +easter "parade")
outfit suggestions? what would YOU wear?
any and all help is very appreciated- thanks so much! (i'll be shopping the brick and mortar stores throughout the week before leaving)

I figure I will wear pants for the daytime stuff (blue jeans/black jeans), black pants outfit for one dinner, and maybe get a black dress for the other. i have a white malandrino dress for easter but i feel like it will be too early in the season to wear it
as for coloring- i am dark skinned with nearly black hair
i guess what i really need help with is the jeans outfits- putting casual outfits together always trips me up
well, for easter, I like the look on the left (I think someone else posted this before):
a pretty dress with a little cardigan would look nice, and it's probably going to be chilly anyway. maybe you could find a colorful cardigan that would work with your black dress for easter?
I think a drapey top with a little cardigan would look great with the jeans too...
I wish I had more time to find outfit images, but I'm slammed right now!

I think the general outfits you suggested sound good! You can pretty much wear whatever you like to any for any of the activities that you are planning, with the exception of dinner and drinks if you go somewhere super casual or super fancy, and church, for which most people here probably wear whatever, but I still prefer to wear dresses and skirts, especially for Easter. And you might have to play the white dress by ear. If it's nice and sunny and sort of warm I say go for it. But I also think any sort of bright or pastel dress or skirt would be nice. Something like this
I think the key is to bring cute but comfortable shoes, like ballet flats with gel insoles, and layers, since the weather has been fickle lately. I'd pack jeans, a plain top, a dressier top, one or two cardigans, one or two pieces of jewelry to dress things up, maybe a dress for dinner if you don't want to wear jeans, and then a dress or blouse/skirt for Sunday, comfortable flats for walking, maybe heels for dinner and/or Easter day, a tote or big slouchy bag and then a smaller bag or clutch if you need to be dressier. Plus a trench or other lightweight coat and a pashmina or scarf that will keep you warm at night but you can also pair with your tops and keep on indoors. HTH!
For the jeans outfit, I'd wear a semi dressy top under a cardigan. That way if you guys go somewhere for drinks or dinner and you want to amp the outfit up a bit, you can just slip off the cardigan.
Something like these under a black or gray cardigan (that I'll bet you already have)
I agree with Boots. I would take the neutral basics you have and make them fun with bright accessories like a patterned scarf, patent flats, great sandals, cute clutch etc.
Keep in mind its been awfully chilly lately so the idea of an Easter sun dress might not work!
-movie with a local (nyc) friend early friday evening -late dinner/dessert friday night
Pointy or ballet flats, black leggings, casual jersey dress (minidress?), some kind of lightweight jacket (denim blazer?), colorful scarf, little purse with shoulder strap.
-sightseeing during the day on saturday
Dark skinny jeans, Converse, sleeveless jersey empire top, simple black cardigan, same colorful scarf, big tote/shoulder bag
-dinner saturday night
If it's casual: same dark skinny jeans, heels, satiny blouse as described by Boots above (print, though?), same black cardigan, same little purse
If it's dressy: same jersey dress, tights, heels, same colorful scarf, same cardigan, same little purse
-brunch on sunday- (maybe church +easter "parade")
Print skirt, same pointy or ballet flats or same heels, same jersey knit top tucked in, same lightweight jacket or black cardigan, tote/shoulder bag, prettier jewelry.
wow- thank you all soooooooooooo much for your replies!!!! Everything was so helpful!! I am such a dunce when it comes to these things.....thank god for style thread!
I went to the mall and kohls (random) today and did some serious damage- heres what i got to wear with my basics
- pair of fairly dark coh kellys to wear as dressier jeans with heels (my other darker jeans-seven bootcut nyd- have seen better days, but i will use them as my casual ones-) -a long placket (mid thigh) tailored white button down from H&M- with a button tab to secure the sleeves when rolled up- has a french feel-love love love
gonna get this dress shipped to my hotel i think, cause i couldn't find anything i liked better (no stores have it in stock.....ugh)
on hold at br- may pull trigger on the way to the train station-ha
thanks again everyone- the time and thought that you put into your replies really helped me get myself together- I really appreciate it. And, hopefully, others will find the "in-between weather weekend in nyc" outfit plans helpful too! Thanks again!
