I'm glad you and your hubby are safe! I can't imagine being shot at -- that must have been surreal. I suggest contacting your uncle -- it will be a good way to reconnect, and  your mother's sisters won't have any fuel for the "you didn't include family" fire about the disposal of your mother's ashes. Good luck -- family drama is the worst!

I did think about my uncle's property, since he has a lot of woods.

It's a two hour drive to get out there, and I can't really go out there at night as it would be pitch dark.

I wouldn't bury her at the ugly rutted circle drive, I would go further into the old farm site, woods, or near the stream.  I kind of thought I'd find where her sister is (apparently there's a little shrine) and put her there. The daughter of this sister (my cousin) likes me, maybe I can contact her to take me out there as another option...

No matter what I do, I think I need someone from her family to accompany me.

Wow, what a strange predicament! I'm sorry that things didn't go as planned, and I hope you get to put your mother to rest soon. Wherever you choose to put her, I'm sure she'll know that you had nothing but the best of intentions and be happy where she is. Let us know what happens.
