los angeles DJ question

so when a friend and i went to LA, everywhere (bars, restaurants, clubs, etc.) we went there were fun DJ's.  she has become obsessed.  she is searching for some kind of cd that has this kind of music...  i'm not into this kind of music, so i'm at a loss...  i *think* it could be described as ambient, lounge-y, not so much techno...  i'm so confused.  she's kind of been having a bad time lately, so i thought i'd try to find a cd for her as a little treat.  can anyone help?

there is a dj that i LOOOOOOOOOVE i listen to her music in the morning and it TOTALLY without fail puts me in a good mood.  she was living in chicago but moved to L.A.  her name is DJ Colette.  she is amazing!!  the cd i would recommend is Our Day.  you can listen to samples on amazon.com  check out #7 to get the best preview of her music (#2 is my favorite). 


in chicago it's called chicago house music, but it's the same in L.A.  she's my favorite.  but i can give other recommendations if you want.
