okay, so in a resignation letter where you say, "I resign my position, effective May 12" or whatever...does that mean that May 12 is your last day, or that is your first day of having resigned (thus making the 11th your last day), or what? I've never done this before and I want to make sure to do it properly. And also be very clear...I am NOT working here any longer than necessary because I don't know how to write a proper letter!
hmm when I had to do it last year I just googled resignation letters and copied a sample from online. When I did it I put in it that my last day was such and such day so there wouldn't be any confusion.
i have written 2 letters. both have said the same thing "effective May 12, I am resigning my position as ....." and that meant, my last day is May 12th...
I guess if you wanted to be extra clear and careful you could write something like "...I am resigning my position as XXX. My last day will be May 12th."

This is what I have always done.. Better safe than sorry especially when there is room for interpretation!
