Ok, I have been through FOUR tailors in this area of Washington in about 2 years. I have been veyr unhappy with all their work. Luckylily recommended one in Seattle that I am going to try next week for a pair of jeans I need hemmed.
However, I needed a pair of black trousers hemmed about half an inch ASAP so I can wear them with the shoes I really want to wear them with instead of these high heeled boots I have been wearing them with and it can be a pain for me to head to Seattle during the week. They are the Express Publicist Trousers and I LOVE these pants, but Express is phasing them out, and i have only been able to find one pair in my size in black.
So I bring them to this tailor that was recommended to me on Bainbridge Island (about 5 minutes from me), and I get them back this morning and the hem on the right leg is REALLY uneven. I'm talking about an INCH difference from one side to the other. The left leg is fine. I am really upset because now the pants are TOO short and one leg has an uneven hem, and I paid for that!
I don't know if I should call the tailor and complain and ask her to replace the pants (if I can find another pair in my size) or what? Have any of you ever been in this situation?
The past three tailors made mistakes that weren't too bad that I could live with, but this is really egregious. I'm going to take them to my tailor in DC to see if she can fix them when I am there in a few weeks, but for now, I can't wear my favorite black pants.
oh great, now i'm scared because i have to go to the tailors' today. i'm so sorry escrime, that sucks! go back, show them exactly what's wrong and make them do a "tricky hem" for free. did they give back the material they took off? btw, a tricky hem is when you reattach the orig, hem higher, it's esp. popular w/ jeans to keep that damaged look at the hem. hth and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the advice. They didn't give me back the hem they cut off. I did call and let a message on her voicemail. I never had any issues finding a tailor on the East Coast. I can't believe it is so hard here, especially near such a large city! Hopefully, she'll call me back and we can work something out.
Lex, I tried asking a SA at the last Express I went to if I could order them from another store or have them do a transfer or something, but she looked at me like I had two heads and that they don't do that. I should probably call around and see if I can get that done. Thanks
Next time you need something hemmed really fast, I've read that you can use toupee tape and sort of attach it into the fold. I'm sure if you ironed the bottom to make a crease before you put the tape in it would look pretty much the same. This is only temporary, though.

My sister told me to do that too. I might have to try it next time.
I just got a call back from the tailor who basically told me that I was probably standing funny when she measured me. HELLO?! I have had MANY pairs of pants tailored, and I have never stood "funny" before. She's going to fix them for me tomorrow, but I am supremely irritated, and it is a huge PITA.
