well, i have just tasted my first bitter ebay defeat.  i've never bought or sold anything on ebay before, but i happened to randomly check it last week and somebody had the anthropologie bicycle cardigan that i've been wanting for the past year.  so i decided to sign up and try my luck.  i was the high bidder until the last two minutes or so and i thought it was in the bag.  then somebody outbid me at LITERALLY the last second!  i'm crushed.  does anyone have any tips for next time (if i can handle it!)?

gosh, how do you girls do it?  i think i get too emotionally invested- i'm not cut out for ebay!

i'm sorry! {{{HUGS}}} I feel your pain. Hopefully it will show up again.

Usually if I can be on the computer when the auction is ending, I monitor it until the last second. I literally bring up the clock display on my destop with the second hand and I bid like 10 seconds before the auction is over. I usually get it for cheaper that way too, but if you can't be around, I guess set a high max bid and cross your fingers. I am a total ebay addict!

aww sweetie- I wish someone had told you that it's the last 10 seconds that really count.  For something highly coveted- like rocky, I sit by the computer and bid in the last 15 seconds with a pretty high amount- maybe even a little over the maximum I'm willing to pay.  If I'm lucky I'll win it for less, if not, I'll pay more than I wanted but I know that it's a rare item and I probably won't see it again on eBay.  If I lose, I REALLY wasn't willing to pay that much.  If you can't be by your computer- auction snipers are the way to go.  Just out of curiousity- how much did it sell for?  It was around $118 in the stores I think.

ETA: I see that it sold for $65.  The retail on the site is wrong though- $72- I'm almost positive it was $118!  It could have sold for more IMO because I know so many people that wanted it.  I wish I had seen it listed!  Dang!

I feel your pain. So frustrating, especially when it seems like your the only bidder. I agree that you should try auction sniper. It enables you to outbid people down to the last second.

There are different sites that offer auction snipers. Usually the first 3 uses or something is free. Some might be totally free and they basically will bid your max price in the last few seconds of the auction (I think 30 secs if its free and then you can go as low as 10 secs if you pay). Just do a google search for auction snipers.
