um, yeah, so i was experimenting with microsoft word and completely screwed up every file in the folder. i think...gosh, i haven't checked files outside that folder, crap...well, anyway. my boss wanted me to "index" this file, so i thought i would experiment and see if word could do it automatically, and apparently it can, but i don't know how to work it.
so now every single file that i open in word has those paragraph symbols ALL OVER it, along with some random bizarre circly things and dashes and other formatting marks. and before i even knew it affected every file, when i first saw the paragraph symbols, i knew i didn't want that, so i tried to undo, and the undo function was unavailable.
can anyone help me??? please??? i think i've screwed up every file in my office.
i went to the Insert menu > Index & Tables, and from there I chose AutoMark.
Hi. The paragraph sign (and the other formatting signs) should show only on the screen; they don't come out when you print. To get rid of them, there should be a paragraph button on the toolbar. If it's not there, you can go on "add or remove buttons" and add it, simply by dragging it on the toolbar.
Can't help for the indexing, tho. Let me know if I was clear.

Ico is right. Just do what she said and the paragraph symbols will go away. They're used for editing a file and are just an option that can be turned on and off. As for the index option, check out the help section in Word for that. It's very helpful and will tell you how to do it step-by-step.
Me again. To add the paragraph sign, if you don't already have it on the toolbar, go on Tools, select "customize", then "view", then drag the "show all" button to the toolbar.
okay...doh. that worked. well sort of. i did screw up one document with this, but i had saved it as a copy already, so in the end, no real harm done. and now the scary 5 billion paragraph marks are gone. phew.
