I haven't seen it. There was a spot on the news about it last night. A couple of the kids they plucked from the ghetto got a trip to the Oscars, Disney Land, then a trip straight back to the ghetto
They did mention that the producer set up a school where they live, but still.....

I thought the movie was fantastic but was thoroughly surprised it got as many Oscars as it did. It was a very touching story - sad, real, yet hopeful. I thought it deserved recognition but part of me thinks that the fact it did is a symptom of our current culture.

I heard that the Indian government is giving the 2 child actors' families homes to get them out of the ghetto. I don't know if these are the same kids as the ones on your news broadcast (there were alot of kids in the movie, I'm sure all of them aren't getting houses.)
I really loved the film, but I'm a big Danny Boyle fan (the director for those who haven't seen it or who aren't a film geek like me.)
