okay- we have a tentative budget and are trying to figure out the best way to break it down.  i think 1/2 of it should go to the reception (as in rental of reception site, food and drink)

am i crazy or does this seem correct?

this pre-wedding planning is HARD!  any books someone can recommend?  i have visited "the knot" but i find it confusing and hard to navigate...

Our reception is 1/2 of the budget so I think you are on target.

50% of your budget is what's recommended for the reception.  of course you can tweak it, but that is pretty typical so you're on the right track.

theknot is a little weird, and i've never really liked it, but i do come across good info from time to time.  i also find it useful to just look at people's bios and get ideas based on real weddings.  the knot does have a budget tool, on the home page, on the left sidebar, the second green box says "My Knot Tools" and one of them is "Wedding Budgeter."  If you put in your total budget, it calculates your estimated budget for each item based on their percentage breakdowns.  Then you can adjust from there based on your own needs and wants.  you could also try weddingchannel.com.  i like it a little better for some things.

These are some books that I've found pretty useful.  And as much as I love the internet, I have an easier time keeping track and finding what I want in the books than on the Knot in particular.

Our reception budget is about 60% of out total budget....but this includes, room for reception, room for ceremony, 5 hours open bar, three course dinner, and cake..
