Ok so how did you all learn to do these things? Like I don't even know how to sew on a button. Did someone teach you, is there a book you can read that will show you?

It's easy to learn and some things are more intuitive than others, like buttons. I have this type of book:

http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Sewing-Readers-Digest/dp/0762104201/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235189347&sr=8-1

but admit i've never really used it.  My mom/classes were the bulk of learning how to do these things.  I'm sure someone could show you the basics.

I love the contest idea. I don't care about the prize, I'd be happy just to have bragging rights!

I've been eyeballing an old ON blazer in my closet and thinking of altering it into short sleeves. Maybe I'll change the buttons too.

There is a show on the Life network (you might not get it because its Canadian) called Renovate My Wardrobe. They clear out someones closet, go through what works and what doesn't and do alterations to a few peices while an interior designer builds a new closet organizer. Its hosted by these two gay guys and its a really fun show.

I have seen a show like this.  It inspired me to take a closer look at what's already in my closet.  I didn't know the name of it though.  good concept for a show!

Aw man. I wish I had a sewing machine! I'd totally do it, especially since I hate all of my clothes right now.
