It sounds terribly impractical, but I fell in love with an ivory leather tufted sofa. I had ivory fabric sofas in my 20s and they were surprisingly easy to keep clean. I'm on the fence about this one because my lifestyle is different than in my 20s (many friends with kids, and I have dogs now that love sleeping on couches).
If pre-treated, does light color leather maintain relatively well? My worry is permanent stains (imagine a glass of wine, or a new pair of dark wash denim). How about yellowing?
Any experienced owners that can provide some input? You may talk some sense into me if need be. This sofa would go in the formal living room and not the family room so it wouldn't necessarily be the "hangout" area, but the plan is it would get a decent amount of use when I entertain a couple times a month, and it would be the secondary tv area (I plan to conceal the tv) for when bf & I can't agree on what to watch. This won't happen for a few months but I'm gathering ideas right now. Thanks ladies!

It sounds lovely!!! And a lot of how a leather sofa will wear depends on the type of leather. If it's a nubuck leather (which I'm thinking ivory probably wouldn't be) then it'll show wear and tear more. If it's that sleek leather it might be doable, but I think wine, denim pimentation, etc are definite concerns to have with the light color no matter the fabric. I mean think about a ivory leather handbag, it shows wear and dirt.
it sounds beautiful, but impractical. and even though it's easy to think disasters don't happen, they inevitably do.
I went to a wine enthusiast party a couple of weeks ago. I wore an $850 thakoon top (I didn't pay that much, but still) and a never-worn, wool calvin klien jacket that was in the back of my closet for two years, so I thought I'd wear it. went to the party, saw the host, stood next to him while we made some small talk, and he promptly spilled his red wine on my ungodly expensive top and new jacket. the wine did not completely come out, but it's not that noticeable...
that's what came to mind when I read this post... it's a risk, as you know, but it certainly would be pretty.
