Stylethread (or FashionHag)?  Is there anything that someone said that changed your life or at least diversified your wardrobe?

I was putting together some potential outfits for the week and I started thinking about how many pairs of pinstriped pants I have.  Then I started thinking about how I used to think that if pants were pinstriped you had to just wear a plain shirt, especially one that matched the stripes.  One day, the discussion came up on FH and someone said that you could just treat pin-striped pants like solid color pants.  That was such a great discovery for me.  I now LOVE the look of pin-striped pants with a patterned shirt.  It would have never occured to me otherwise.  If I hadn't read that on FashionHag, I probably wouldn't have had all the cute pinstriped pants I have now because I would think that I had to wear a solid top and it would be too similar to another outfit.

So, what's yours?

I think what I learned most was to have fun with color. My outfits used to be so drab colorwise, but now I am branching out after looking at stylethreaders. I love pink and green together, tourqoise, tan & coral...etc. Also I learned that My shoes DON'T have to match the bag.

First of all, let me say that I LOVE STYLETHREAD. I've found so much inspiration here and I get daily style tips! The best tip from the last couple of months has been to mix colors just like rocky said-I have never been so creative with color until now...just today I wore a light blue pair of pants with a light green ls shirt...i felt so colorful and springy.it was great!

I agree.  Color help is what I have learned alot about.

Mostly ST has just made me more confident about the way I dress.  I no longer worry about being too eccentric.

I also am more aware of the importance of assessories.  I've always loved them, but I was pretty lazy about putting them on in the morning.  Now I always take the time to add a little something to my outfit.

I agree on the importance of accessories and also wearing color. I now wear more colors than just black, black and black.

Unfortunately, from FH/ST I have also learned that I have expensive taste (but still a small budget).  And I'm becoming a bit of a clothes snob. Cheap, unheard-of labels (things like "Miss fashion" or "Razzle dazzle") make my skin crawl. And I try not to be snooty about it but cheap things (I mean cheaply made, cheap fabrics, etc not necessarily inexpensive things) just don't fly with me.

The best tips I've gotten have defintely been regarding color. I think it was Smash who said that green goes with everything, because every flower (no matter what color) is attached to a green stem. That's what really got me going on the idea of working with tons of color.

-not to be matchy-matchy. I used to think red shoes were for red outfits (). Now that I'm not as matchy, I wear a lot more color.

-which brands are worth spending extra $$$ on

i tend to not buy as many items each week as other ST girls.  i usually buy a one or two things that i really love, instead of a bunch of less expensive things.

i also keep a computer list of what i need or want, and usually look at it before i go shopping, that way, i will stay focused.

if i like an outfit that i have worn, gotten lots of compliments, gotten hit on a lot a bars, feel super confident in, i'll write it on an index card so i remember it and if i'm at a loss for outfits, i'll look through those.

from my bf, i've learned patience.  he has taught me that certain things always go on sale.  for example, anthropologie almost ALWAYS goes on sale (that's how i got my duvet cover for %50 off).

when i help people dress, i always add gold or silver shoes with a dress for a little funkier look.

finally...your clothes sizes may flucuate, but your shoe size always stays the same (i guess unless you're pregnant) but you can ALWAYS justify a shoe purchase.

Has to be the diverse use of color. I love putting colors together that don't ordinarily spring to mind as going together.

I also learned to not be so matchy-matchy. Thanks stylethread!

I've gotten a lot of ideas, the most important being unexpected color combinations and layering. And I'm still in the process of learning how to actually apply them to my own outfits.

You can shop anywhere from Target to Old Navy and still be stylishand fashionable. Fashion has nothing to do with labels, but is more about how you put yourself together.

i agree with everyone re: the learning to not be afraid of color

i also have gained a feeling of accountability, maybe this sounds weird, but i feel more responsibility to dress nicely and thoughtfully, instead of just throwing stuff on.  i wouldn't want to let my stylethread girls down.   but i feel better about myself when i know i look nice and put together.

The style tips gained are almost too numerous to mention but the two that stand out in my mind the most are:

1. Clever and creative use of color. Some of the threadstyle posts just blow my mind.

2. I have learned not to get stuck in the mindset of "Oh, that outfit is not me. I like it but it is just not my style". True, it is great to have a personal style but it is also wonderful to try things that are outside the safe zone.

Thanks, everybody!!!

I think the most important things I've learned from Stylethread/FashionHag are kind of conflicting. One the one hand, I've learned how to assess what is my style and avoid things that really aren't "me." However, I've also learned to step outside my fashion comfort zone and incorporate things that I don't think are "me" into my style.

not really a tip, per se, but i have really made an effort to try to accessorize more. i don't wear jewelry that much, but seeing the way you ladies wear it is motivating!
