One of the eight babies the world has been waiting to see.

Not only is "Octo-Mom" Nadya Suleman currently living on food stamps, but she also intends to use student loans to care for her 14 young children.

Octo-Mom Introduces her Children

The latest shocking revelation comes in a fresh excerpt of her interview with the Today show's Ann Curry.

Do you have any income at all?  Curry asked Nadya Suleman during her exclusive interview with the 33-year-old mother.

At the moment, no, Suleman replied, adding that she intended to use student loans temporarily to pay for her familys care.

Right now, you dont have an income to provide for your children? Curry repeated.

Probably just with the student loans, Suleman said. I am providing for my children. I am. And that will probably run out by the time I go back to school. So I have my own way. Its an alternative way, but it works.

Meanwhile, the first pictures of the California octuplets were released Monday along with the revelation that Suleman is on food stamps.

In the Curry interview, Suleman had said she was not on welfare, but her publicist Mike Furtney said later that she receives $490 a month in food stamps.

She also receives disability payments for three of her six previous children, but Suleman did not want to disclose the nature of her children's disabilities or the nature of those payments.

Furtney says that in Suleman's view, the payments are necessary for her family's legitimate needs.

"I believe that God will provide in his own way," Suleman said in the  interview. She claimed she will depend on the help of her mother and the generosity of volunteers.

But her mother is of a different mind.

"The truth is Nadya's not capable of raising 14 children," said the octuplet's grandmother, Angela Suleman in an interview posted on radaronline.com.

Angela Suleman says her daughter's compulsion for more children is a burden on her. She called her daughter's actions "unconscionable."

"She already has six beautiful children. Why would she do this?" the grandmother of 14 said. "I'm struggling to look after her six. We had to put in bunk beds, feed them in shifts and there's children's clothing piled all over the house."

Nadya Suleman's publicist Mike Furtney said that his client has been away for nearly two months, so shouldn't be held responsible for the home's current condition.

Furtney said his client planned to move into a larger home once the octuplets were healthy enough to leave doctors' care.

He declined to comment on any of the remarks Angela Suleman made about her daughter in the interview. The remainder of the interview will air on Tuesday's Dateline NBC.

This woman makes me sick. Not only did she endanger her children by having so many at once, she doesn't have any way to provide for them. And what kind of single parent thinks that six children isn't enough of a handful?

can you believe she has a website up that you can donate $ through paypal. and she saved up thousands of dollars, worked jobs, to have this procedure done and now my husband and I are helping her raise those poor kids!
and if you look at her picture, she resembles Angelina Jolie. Rumor is that she got her lips and nose done to look more like her.
She is sick in the head.
I really feel sorry for those kids and babies! Some are saying that we shouldn't take it out on the babies and help out.

I'm surprised DHS hasn't checked into this yet. I wouldn't thinks she would be able to provide the level of care they require. Since it has been all over the news I would think it would be a red flag to them.

This upsets me too. I cringe every time I hear something about this woman/family on the news. Why give her the satisfaction of becoming famous? There are two different publicists quoted in these articles.

Getting her master's in counseling? Would you go to this freak of the week for counseling? She's absolutely insane.

I grant you I have a problem with anyone - no matter how wealthy - who has litters of children. The planet is already groaning. We don't live in the Middle Ages when people had to have twelve children in hopes that some would survive infancy. We don't live in an agrarian society where we need children for field labor (although the case could be made for larger family sizes for both infant mortality and economic stability in some regions of the world).

Without getting into a angry argument about this woman, I just want to say something that has consistently bothered me about the media/public outcry on this woman. I'm not pointing these things at anybody in particular, but it's just something that I keep hearing being brought up.

Mentioning that she is a single parent and that she would be better able to raise her children if she had a husband/boyfriend is no different than saying that any woman would be better able to raise her children if she wasn't single. Yes, she has more children than the average woman, but doubting the ability of this woman to be a good single parent is a slippery slope and opens up the argument to any woman of any number of children. I believe strongly in the idea that it's the person who counts, not the gender of the parent or the number of parents or even the actual genetic relationship of parent. None of us know this woman and how she truly is as a mother and person, despite all the family members that have come out for or against her. It's like any gossip story, news outlets often pay these family members and so some will be willing to say anything.

Yes, I do think that she is mentally ill and has an addiction to the babies- she said so herself that she wanted to make sure that her children weren't lonely like her, growing up as an only child. That's besides the point, really. The Angelina Jolie crap that's being brought up in several different places? It's pure, useless, gossip crap designed to sell newspapers and magazines.

What I find disgusting about this whole situation is the public's reaction to everything. This is not something for public discussion. Because she is or will be accepting public funding (welfare, food stamps, etc) does not make her private decisions up for public debate. There hundreds of thousands of women who receive food stamps or even those who use student loans to pay for their childrens' needs. By saying that she's different because she has 8 babies is to me, what's disgusting, because then that makes me wonder if there's some arbitrary number that's okay for poorer women to have. And honestly? What if she was wealthy and white? Would it be as "disgusting" and "wrong" to have had these children?

I'm waiting for the docs on her plastic surgery to be released....

Why does she have a publicist if she keeps saying all the WRONG things?

I don't think this is as much of a "single mom" "woman who can't provide" issue, as is woman who is milking every system possible! If Jon & Kate (+8) announced that they were unemployed and had several planned fertility treatments and were living off of disability, food stamps, and student loans, it would be the same thing.

I'm guessing she enrolled in some school, then is on a leave of absence so she still gets the money? I remember such strict rules when I applied for aid, if I was parttime, my loans less than halved... I am wondering where she got the approval for fertility treatments.. aren't they 30K a round? and insurances only cover 1-2 rounds mostly...

I am thinking the more this woman talks, the more people will find out about her fraud/lies, and eventually there will be a stop. Just how I see it.

From what I understand, she got the money for IVF from some lawsuit that she won.

Well I feel its up for a public discussion because she's making it that way, with the interviews and asking for public help in raising her kids, etc. I agree there are thousands of people on welfare but, ca'mon, this lady is over doing it! First she lied saying she wasn't receiving any help, then it comes out that yes, she receives food stamps. And she dosen't just have 8 babies, she has 14 kids total now!
Sorry if we dont' agree, but yes....I think its "sick" and "wrong" what she has done. I feel so bad for all her 14 kids!
And as a parent....I don't understand how you can give attention to each and every 14 kids without screwing at least one up.
What if she was wealthy? ( I dont care what color she is) I still wouldn't agree on having more than her 6 kids to begin with. Just because of the attention and love you have to give to each child. Why did she have to have more than the 6 she already had? She is sick in the head. Too bad her doctor didn't give a crap.

don't mean to offend anyone that was raised in more than 6 child household...I know a few friends that have. Its just that she knew she wasn't financially stable and still went ahead with the procedure. Already struggling financially with her 6 and depending on her parents to help

This makes my blood boil. I have no problem with someone bringing as many kids into this world as they want--it's a personal choice--as long as they have a means to support those kids. In my opinion, what this woman has done is irresponsible and unethical.

The more I read and see about her, the lower my boiling point goes. She's a disgrace to women, motherhood, fertility & welfare. She's a selfish, selfish woman who should've been seeing a psychiatrist and NOT a fertility doctor. I also hope that the doctor who did her fertility, loses his license.

I can't believe how angry she makes me. I'm at a loss for words anymore because I continue to be astounded by this......woman.

Well I for one wish you would. It would entertain ME, at least...

God knows I used student loan money for living expenses necessary and unnecessary - I have no beef with that. I have no problem that three of the six kids she already had get "federal supplemental security income" because they are disabled.

I admit, it bothers me she had the money for IVF, but doesn't have it to feed the kids she already has (foodstamps) and of course the medical bills of eight preemies (the hospital has begun submitting the bills to MediCal). My SIL delivered premature twins who were in the NICU for a month, and the medical bills were almost $200,000 for only two babies. (She had the best health insurance in the world.)

In short, it's beyond a personal choice to bring irresponsible numbers of children into a world that we all share. I don't care if the parents have the money to provide for them or not, they are people who will grow up and make L.A. traffic even worse - making them my problem too.

I agree with you Relrel, suddenly all these divisions on what type/class of woman has reproductive rights?

And speaking of the Jon & Kate flock, does anyone know what they did before they had all the kids?

According to Wikipedia, their "doctor suggested selective reduction, but the couple was absolutely against doing so."

So they went into their situation both times knowing they could/would have multiple births. I'm curious to know what their life would be like without all of the book deals, tv show, nanny and handouts from companies.

I tried to watch that show to see what all the hype was about and the Kate lady drove me nuts so I couldn't watch it. But I guess a lot are buying into the hype because their situation is deemed okay?

if this Angelina wannabe lady can make book/advertising deals and pay for the welfare of her children she isn't any different than anyone else that has capitalized on their ability to spit out large number of kids.

As for her being crazy, I've seen women with only one child and still can't support them because they are so wacked out. I mean, Anglina herself wasn't the text book mom when she started adopting and adopting adopting and having 6 children(4 within a 2 year time period).

Not that it makes it right, but there are women on here that have suffered from psychological issues, and I don't think we would ever shun each other. I hope she gets the helps she needs. It seems she craves someone to love her, and that makes me the most sad.

Sounds like she's really working the system. I just read that she receives disability payments for one of the children who has ADHD. I'd hardly call that a disability that requires monthly payments. Makes me wonder if she wanted a lot more children in hopes of having a few more disabled children to increase her monthly disability income.

I think CPS should check in on her and the children regularly once the babies come home. I doubt she can care for that many children by herself.

I am curious as to how she plans to attend college while taking care of 14 young children.

Taxpayers may have to cover octuplet mom's costs

This image made from a 2006 video provided by KTLA shows Nadya Suleman speaking at a ferti...

Thu Feb 12, 12:33 AM EST

A big share of the financial burden of raising Nadya Suleman's 14 children could fall on the shoulders of California's taxpayers, compounding the public furor in a state already billions of dollars in the red.

Even before the 33-year-old single, unemployed mother gave birth to octuplets last month, she had been caring for her six other children with the help of $490 a month in food stamps, plus Social Security disability payments for three of the youngsters. The public aid will almost certainly be increased with the new additions to her family.

Also, the hospital where the octuplets are expected to spend seven to 12 weeks has requested reimbursement from Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program, for care of the premature babies, according to the Los Angeles Times. The cost has not been disclosed.

Word of the public assistance has stoked the furor over Suleman's decision to have so many children by having embryos implanted in her womb.

"It appears that, in the case of the Suleman family, raising 14 children takes not simply a village but the combined resources of the county, state and federal governments," Los Angeles Times columnist Tim Rutten wrote in Wednesday's paper. He called Suleman's story "grotesque."

On the Internet, bloggers rained insults on Suleman, calling her an "idiot," criticizing her decision to have more children when she couldn't afford the ones she had and suggesting she be sterilized.

"It's my opinion that a woman's right to reproduce should be limited to a number which the parents can pay for," Charles Murray wrote in a letter to the Los Angeles Daily News. "Why should my wife and I, as taxpayers, pay child support for 14 Suleman kids?"

She was also berated on talk radio, where listeners accused her of manipulating the system and being an irresponsible mother.

"From the outside you can tell that this woman was playing the system," host Bryan Suits said on the "Kennedy and Suits" show on KFI-AM. "You're damn right the state should step in and seize the kids and adopt them out."

Suleman's spokesman, Mike Furtney, urged understanding.

"I would just ask people to consider her situation and she has been under a tremendous amount of pressure that no one could be prepared for," Furtney said.

Furtney said he, Suleman and her family had received death threats and had been getting messages that were "disgusting things that would never be proper to put in any story."

In her only media interviews, Suleman told NBC's "Today" she doesn't consider the public assistance she receives to be welfare and doesn't intend to remain on it for long.

Also, a Nadya Suleman Family Web Site has been set up to collect donations for the children. It features pictures of the mother and each octuplet and has instructions for making donations by check or credit card.

Suleman, whose six older children range in age from 2 to 7, said three of them receive disability payments. She told NBC one is autistic, another has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, known as ADHD, and a third experienced a mild speech delay with "tiny characteristics of autism." She refused to say how much they get in payments.

In California, a low-income family can receive Social Security payments of up to $793 a month for each disabled child. Three children would amount to $2,379.

The Suleman octuplets' medical costs have not been disclosed, but in 2006, the average cost for a premature baby's hospital stay in California was $164,273, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Eight times that equals $1.3 million.

For a single mother, the cost of raising 14 children through age 17 ranges from $1.3 million to $2.7 million, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is struggling to close a $42 billion budget gap by cutting services, declined through a spokesman to comment on the taxpayer costs associated with the octuplets' delivery and care.

State Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Grass Valley, an oral surgeon who sits on the Health Committee, said that once a state Medical Board investigation is complete, lawmakers could review issues from government oversight to standards in fertility treatment.

Suleman received disability payments for an on-the-job back injury during a riot at a state mental hospital, collecting more than $165,000 over nearly a decade before the benefits were discontinued last year.

Some of the disability money was spent on in vitro fertilizations, which was used for all 14 of her children, Suleman said. She said she also worked double shifts at the mental hospital and saved up for the treatments. She estimated that all her treatments cost $100,000.

Fourteen states, including California, require insurance companies to offer or provide coverage for infertility treatment, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. But California has a law specifically excluding in vitro coverage. It's not clear what type of coverage Suleman has.

In the NBC interview, Suleman said she will go back to California State University, Fullerton in the fall to complete her master's degree in counseling, and will use student loans to support her children. She already owes $50,000 in student loans, she told NBC. She said she will rely on the school's daycare center and volunteers.

I'm not a HUGE fan of theirs but to answer the questions.. I believe they had 1 session paid for by insurance, the 2nd round was financed by Jon's parents.

Also both Jon and Kate worked..

Also Jon was laid off 2x after he tried to enroll his kids under a family insurance plan.  He sued the company and lost.

Also all the things that are given to them were offered to them, I don't believe Jon or Kate made Paypal accounts accepting money... just my two cents..

I saw this on the chloe conspiracy blog and think it's awesome:

Dear Octuplet Mom Lady,

I see you have started a website so your fans know where to send donations, which is very thoughtful of you. However, I already send you donations. It's called my taxes, and it's automatically taken out of my paycheck every two weeks.

You know, a paycheck. You get one when you work. And they take taxes out to help those in need. And sometimes it also helps support loony nincompoops like you. What can I say? The system is a little broken.

I iz so very very happy to see you spend it on pretty fake nailz! Yay!

XOXOXOX,
Chloe
