I think there are areas and stops with designated places that you get to shower (like the teahouses) if this is similar to other treks that I have been on, but I don't think showers would be available everyday, but I am not 100% sure.

ok, good.  I'm fine with a few days of sponge baths, but 15 days without washing my hair sounds scary!

Escrime - beautiful pictures! I'd frame that beautiful elephants in the fog shot!

D- we hope to do Nepal and Tibet as well one day. I hear Tibet is difficult because they only allow a certain number of tourists a year. Either way - I think you'll have a blast!

Hey, D. I just saw my hair dresser last night. He said that Nepal was absolutely amazing. He said that if you decide not to do the trek to base camp/Tibet thing, that you should visit Pokhara which is in a Himalayan valley. He said that it was one of the quietest moments in life, sunrise looking at the mountains. His trip over there started in Egypt and went through Jordan, India, Nepal and ended in Thailand. He was doing a World Religions type-vacation...Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhism.

And actually, D. He has a question for you! His next trip is to South America. He wanted to know how much time the trip to the Galapagos added to your overall vacation time. He was only planning on doing Chile, Peru and Brazil but really wants to add the Galapagos on. Do you think it would be necessary to spend much time in Ecuador? Or is it easy enough to just fly there?

Thanks for the info! dc is dead set on the trek, not sure if the one we're looking at goes through Pokhara, but I'll take a look.  The spring is supposed to be breathtaking in that area with all the flowers in bloom...

It is not necessary to spend much time in Ecuador.  Frankly, it's a bit dangerous, but I wanted to check it out since we were passing though (we stayed in Quito, but all flights to the Galapagos go through Guayaquil, and it's not a pretty city.)  We spent, I think, 4 nights in the Galapagos.  That gave us time to do the hiking and day trips we wanted to do. We didn't do the super expensive cruise thing, but I honestly don't feel like I missed anything... I cannot recommend where we stayed more - it was FANTASTIC (especially in comparison to comparable hotels) -- a super good value.  Please don't hesitate to let me know if he has more questions.

Where is he going in Brazil?  I have been to Manaus/Amazon, but not to Rio or Sao Paulo (yet)

He's headed to Rio. His goal is to see all seven wonders of the world. After the South America trip, he's down to just the Great Wall of China.

D- My brother is in Nepal right now. You and DC probably aren't interested in doing a lot of the things he's doing (He brought his full suspension mountain bike with him, and he and his friend are mountain biking all over Nepal), but I thought you'd get a kick out of his blog:
