I feel like I am totally pushy with the forum since my breakup, which I've been whining about in "relationships" and "general chat" but if any of you can spare MORE words of wisdom, I'd be so grateful!


There is a silver lining to my break up, which is that I have more time to focus on several things that I want to accomplish career and life - wise. But I could use any advice that you all have.


The big thing is that I am trying to relocate to San Diego, but I can't relocate without a job. My background is in communication/writing/editing (with a technical bent) for nonprofits, especially in education types of environments. Looking online, I'm having trouble finding good sites to apply for jobs in SD, and I've never applied for a job out of state before, so I don't know if I should follow up and let them know I'd be willing to cover my expenses to come for an interview, or what. I'm assuming most non-profits wouldn't be able to afford to fly me out. So, that's one question, and then the other is, does anyone know how I can find a directory or something of non-profits in SD?

www.idealist.org is  a good place to look for non-profit jobs.and unlike places like monster, the companies are actually pretty good about calling you back if you're a match.

I second idealist.org - that's a great non-profit resource.


It probably also doesn't hurt to look on monster and hotjobs under their nonprofit section, just to see what nonprofits are out there.  also try craigslist.


i'm not sure if there's a San Diego Business Journal (there's one in LA and lots of other major cities), but the LABJ publishes a Book of Lists every year and one of their lists is the top nonprofits in LA.  If there is a SDBJ, see if you can buy the Book of Lists (or maybe it's available online?) - that would be an excellent resource.
