So I spent this morning trying on every single thing I own and got rid of two big shopping bags full of stuff. I went to Plato's Closet (a chain consignment store for those of you not familiar with it, however it isn't technically consignment- they just give you a big chunk of cash up front). I made $40, which was way more than I expected esp. 'cause they didn't even take that much stuff. The rest I'm going to drop off at the homeless shelter.
I feel so liberated!
I used the guidelines in The Lucky Shopping Manual which are:
Does it flatter my shape?
Is the fit perfect or fixable?
Is the color right for me?
Have I worn it in the last two years? (I used one year as a guideline)
Do I feel great when I wear it?
The funny thing too is that in a week (or less) I probably won't even be able to remember what I got rid of 'cause since they were all things I rarely wore and cased me aggravation.
By the way, after I cleaned out I counted every single top and bottom that I have -not including jackets or what's in the laundry. For tops I have 70 and for bottoms 31 (not including what's in the laundry). I was really surprised at the numbers!
Lastly before I drop off stuff at the shelter i'm going to take a photo of the massive heap and keep it in my purse as a reminder of all the stuff I never should of bought in the first place.
I am inspired by your post!! I am going to fill two bags this weekend. What a great feeling it must be to get rid of that stuff you just aren't going to wear!!
Oh my god me too!! I am running out of room!! I can never find anything and it always feels like I have nothing to wear even though I am constantly buying!!
This past week I got rid of 17 pairs of shoes and I am about to get rid of one bag of clothing. There were about 5 things I left hanging in my closet that I KNOW I won't wear again, but I just could not get rid of them yet. Isn't that silly?
i did that a week ago! it feels SO good to get rid of things taking up space in your closet. i got rid of 11 bags of clothes. 5 went to the consignment shoppe, 3 went to charity and 3 were old High School, College and Sorority tee-shirts that my mom is cutting up and making into quilts for me.
whew! felt good to clear that space- makes room for more, new stuff!!!
Gosh, ANOTHER thing I gotta do! It's really hard for me. 1) I'm afraid I'll use it later in the future, you know how trends repeat themselves. Like my mom has tons of clothes and she never throws anything out, which turned out to be good, cuz I go through her stuff and found lots of great stuff. Maybe I should just examine them and make an outfit around that object and see how it goes. 2) I just don't have time to do all that. I know there's unflattering stuff, but either I don't sort it out, or I don't have time to drop off the stuff for goodwill, etc.
