Pantyhose ... A Must??
Permalink Closed

Okay, I wore 'em when I got married but that was in December.  My girlfriend is getting married in May, it'll probably be in the 70's (possibly 80's) and her mother is insiting she wear pantyhose.  She hates them and is tore up about having to wear them.  Is this something that is a must???

NOOOOOOOOO!  But in her mothers generation they kinda were, so I can see why she's pushing them.  Unless she is wearing a slinky slip of a dress, she will be plenty warm and they are completely uneccessary - if she was contemplating them for control/undergarment reasons, I would recommend control top shorts or something along that line.  Can you tell I HATE pantyhose?

I probably WON'T be wearing them, for the following two reasons:

1. I don't usually wear dress shoes, so I don't want my feet to slip around inside the shoe. I'm relying on there being some friction btwn my feet and the shoe. I don't care if I get blisters, I just don't want to sprain my ankle. and

2. I don't want to worry about getting runs in the stockings. Stuff like that makes me nuts.

Also... the dress is probably he heavy and stiff -- I'll certainly be warm enough without them!

quick question- why would she wear tights in the first place? it's a long dress and her legs will be covered anyways, unless she's wearing a micromini. Is her mom worried about the garter pull? If she wants to do the garter thingy and wanted to please her mom, I guess she could run into the bathroom real fast before and throw on some thigh highs or something...

her mom will just have to get over it, its not the end of the world and its not her wedding or her legs in that heat.

I sure as heck won't be wearing pantyhose at my wedding, regardless of what time of year it is or whether or not my mother thinks I should!! Good grief, it's pantyhose, not a big deal in the scope of things.  If she doesn't want to wear pantyhose, then she shouldn't wear pantyhose.  Pantyhose would just make her more uncomfortable on a day when emotions are already running high and that added discomfort would just be distracting.

I am not wearing pantyhose with my dress....I am wearing open toe shoes and I am not a big fan of pantyhose in the first place...I do not think that you need to wear them if you do not want to

pantyhose are the worst invention in the world and should never be worn between the months of April and Sept!

Definitly not a must.  No bride should be forced to wear pantyhose on her wedding day.  It should be a happy day!  Hose do not make me happy.

Thanks ladies.  She asked me to ask you if it made a difference that her shoes were closed toe, open back??

sigh... i anticipate that my mother and i will be entering the great pantyhose debate in a few months. i do NOT want to wear them! there is no reason for me to - i have an enormous poufy dress (so no worried about needing the under-dress support), we aren't doing a garter toss so no one will be looking under my dress (well at least that is my hope!). but i think that mothers are just from an era where pantyhose were/are worn with dresses.

i will be fighting it tooth and nail! i think regardless of when your wedding is and what kind of shoes you are wearing, you should not need to wear pantyhose (unless you want to, that is). down with hose!
