Is anyone going to the inauguration?

I also heard about this video, and thought I'd post...

TUESDAY, JAN. 20 (INAUGURATION DAY)

Gates to the Inaugural Ceremony open at 8 a.m. The inaugural festivities are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. They will include:

_ Musical selections of The United States Marine Band, followed by the San Francisco Boys Chorus and the San Francisco Girls Chorus.

_ Sen. Dianne Feinstein provides call to order and welcoming remarks.

_ Invocation by the Rev. Rick Warren.

_ Musical selection of Aretha Franklin.

_ Biden will be sworn into office by Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.

_ Musical selection of John Williams, composer/arranger with Itzhak Perlman, (violin), Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Gabriela Montero (piano) and Anthony McGill (clarinet).

_ Obama will take the Oath of Office, using President Lincoln's Inaugural Bible, administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. Scheduled around noon.

_ Obama gives the inaugural address.

_ Poem by Elizabeth Alexander.

_ Benediction by Rev. Joseph E. Lowery.

_ The National Anthem by The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters."

After Obama gives inaugural address, he will escort outgoing President George W. Bush to a departure ceremony before attending a luncheon in the Capitol's Statuary Hall.

The 56th Inaugural Parade will then make its way down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House.

Eeee I'm so excited! Sadly, I won't be in DC, but I'll be celebrating here :)

I'm definitely looking forward to see what the next four years hold for him!

Regardless of who you voted for, the inauguration was pretty profound, wasn't it?

I'm looking forward to everyone focusing on a positive future.

Sadly, my internet connection (at a major hospital in a major city) at work failed me. I tried about fifteen different sites before giving up. The closest I came to actually watching Obama being sworn in was an image of Biden during his swearing in that got frozen and never unfroze. So, so close!

However, my parents were at the inauguration! They had headed down to DC to babysit my niece because my sister and and BIL are going to Pennsylvania's Ball tonight. My mom figured that since she was going to be in DC it would be silly to miss out on a historic moment. She pawned the niece off on some friends of my sister's and hopped on the Metro this morning with my dad and sister. I got a call this morning from her right after the Metro ride (which very well may be her first subway ride EVER) and she was so excited, "there's just so many people here! I couldn't even move on the subway!). She's been sending me pictures throughout the morning and I just spoke to her about an hour ago. I've never heard her more excited in her life and she did tell me that she was simply amazed by the number of young people there and was so proud of my generation. She did tell me though, that she got separated from Daddy who had apparently wandered off in search of his glove which he dropped. I'll be amazed if Daddy finds his glove in a crowd of 2 million! For a 50-odd year old woman with some social anxiety issues, my mom sounds amazing on the phone- so psyched and excited and amazed.

Relrel - It's so exciting to hear about such great experiences of the inauguration. My own mother has some social anxiety issues, but she is so jazzed up about the inauguration, she's going to all sorts of inauguration parties near where my parents live. This is an exciting time!
