What's your celebrity playlist?
Permalink Closed

I know there have been a lot of music polls recently, but my friends and I have basically spent all weekend doing this so I had to post about it here.

So you may have noticed that on iTunes there are "Celebrity Playlists." If you were a celebrity and were asked to make a playlist, what would be on yours? Mine's too long, but I can't cut anything. After a weekend of discussion and deliberation here it is...

4th of July-Aimee Mann
This Song-Badly Drawn Boy
Wasted and Ready-Ben Kweller
10 A.M. Automatic-The Black Keys
Hesitating Beauty-Billy Bragg and Wilco
Don't Think Twice It's All Right-Bob Dylan
Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl-Broken Social Scene
My Ritual-Folk Implosion
Sex Machine-James Brown
Bold As Love-Jimi Hendrix
I Walk The Line-Johnny Cash
Rainbow Connection-Kermit the Frog
Innocence-Kirsty MacColl
Designs On You-Old 97s
Does He Love You?-Rilo Kiley
Poses-Rufus Wainwright
Your Ex Lover Is Dead-Stars
Under Control-The Strokes
Take It In-The Waifs
Maps-Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Haha, glad to see that. It literally took me like all weekend. I don't think there's a limit to the list of songs, but most are around 15. I think mine's like 19. I mean some celebrities have like 25, but I feel like that makes you look pretentious. There are a lot of politics involved in the celebrity playlist!

i've been thinking about this, too!  it's so hard to choose--i tend to like the celebrity lists that are just a jumble of favorite songs, rather than the ones that seem to have a theme.  i will post one, but i have to think a little more.

i'm trying to put one together too. i've been thinking about it, but my damn job is sucking the life out of me -- in the most literal sense. i just looked at this week's list and john legend has like a 100 songs.

Ugh, that's so douchey. And he has an explanation for all of them. My favorites are Danny Masterson's (although it's a little pretentious) and Daniel Kessler from Interpol's. Also, I love Jennifer Garner's cause it's cute.

Maddie - I love your playlist. But, damn! It's so depressing. I'm so glad to see someone else digging Rilo Kiley. Most people I know have never heard of them before! I think Jenny Lewis made a wise career choice, don't you?

I don't know, she was pretty good in Troop Beverly Hills, haha! I LOOVE her voice. I'm so into Rilo Kiley right now. And yeah, I think I listen to depressing music which is weird cause it's so not my personailty. My friend was telling me that if I was a celebrity I couldn't use this playlist cause people wouldn't get the wrong impression of me.

Don't knock Troop Beverly Hills! I watched that movie over and over and over and over as a child. Almost as much as I watched Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I personally think JL was better in The Wizard. Man I was such a geek as a child.

I'm really into Rilo Kiley right now, too. I'm hooked on Man/Me/Then Jim. I love how you can't sing along after only hearing it a couple times because the chorus changes everytime.

I like smart music and sometimes that happens to be depressing but sometimes you get lucky and it's OutKast. My playlist would be filled with complete randomness - which would completely suit my personality!

OK this is sort of random but I was trying to pick interesting or less-popular songs that might appeal to a decent amount of Style Threaders. I'm too lazy to come up with more.

-Nirvana, "You Know You're Right" - One my favorite Nirvana songs. The acoustic version that's on the box set is good but the studio version which they released a few years back is amazing.

-Bob Dylan, "Mama You've Been on My Mind" - I think this is my favorite Dylan song and it's not on any of his albums. Joan Baez and Johnny Cash both did upbeat versions and Jeff Buckley's version is good, but I love the version on the box set of Dylan Bootlegs. It's beautiful and kind of heartbreaking.

-Dismemberment Plan, "The Ice of Boston" - Catchy, pop-y, funny about being alone and cynical on New Year's.

-Tommy Roe, "Sweet Pea" - Totally addictive 60s bubblegum that makes me want to hand jive.

-Death From Above 1979, "Romantic Rights" - Disclosure: I have a personal interest in this band so I'm plugging them. But they're getting really popular and have been selling out shows at some of NYC's big venues, they were just on Conan and David Cross is a big fan! They're from Toronto and are sort of dancey punk with a touch of metal.

And my theme list: Covers to listen to while lying in bed and being heartsick.
-Willie Nelson, "Time After Time" (Cyndi Lauper)
-Jeff Buckley, "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen)
-The Pixies, "Winterlong" (Neil Young)
-The Sundays, "Wild Horses" (Rolling Stones)
-Sonic Youth, "Superstar" (Carpenters)
