I've only been to a spa once and my ex paid for it, so I'm not really sure how it works- but I have a GC for a facial, and I'm wondering, when I leave the tip, do I give it directly to the facialist or do I leave it with the desk when I pay?? I just want to make sure I do the right thing. Thanks!
I think that it'll be obvious when you check in or out. At my usual place they'll ask me when I pay if I want to leave a tip and whether I want to put it on my card, if not they will give me an envelope. At the place where I get massages there's a note in the massage room that tips aren't included and that you'll have the opportunity to tip when you check out. They always ask me when I pay as well. Tipping can be so stressful, I hate to waste time during my appointment wondering how to do it!

I always just ask. When the facialist/masseuse/whatever is finishing up, saying "thanks for coming and goodbye" or whatever, I always say "oh, can I leave a tip up at the front desk?" - they'll tell you right there what to do, you don't have to figure it out yourself!
