My boss' mother is in the hospital right now, she was diagnosed w/ cancer a year ago and given 3 months to live. She far surpassed the diagnosis but it is not looking so good right now. The office wants to pitch in and get her something. Someone mentioned a caterer coming to her home and cooking for her and her family since they probably do not want to cook. While this is a good idea, they live out of state so we do not know caterers in the area...any other ideas for a group gift besides flowers or a fruit basket???
I like the catering idea - it shouldn't be hard to look up caterers for their city on the net - try www.infospace.com - I wouldn't trash that idea quite yet - it would probably be the most thoughful and appreciated... Doesn't even have to be a caterer - any provider of home meal replacement (prepared meals ready for cooking) would be a nice gesture.
Another idea is a group donation in the family's name to the American Cancer Society, but it wouldn't have the thoughtful impact that meal provision would have... a donation to ACS would almost seem morbid, I would think...
I am very familiar with dealing with cancer in my family - and I think the meal service or some type of errand running service - just something to make their lives easier would be most welcome.
