alternative to dancing?

hi girls... i've been trying to plan my oct '09 wedding. we are both not that into dancing. i wouldn't mind it, but i think my fiance would like to consider other options. is there anything else we can do? all of the weddings that i have been to have had dancing (one had karaoke which i do not want). any ideas would be appreciated. thanks!

My husband and I don't dance either. Instead of having the traditional dj we opted for a piano player. We did our traditional dances and then let the piano player take over and do their own thing. It worked out really well and we got a lot of compliments. Just a thought...

My cousin's wedding didn't have dancing. They did have a DJ, but he didn't play "dancey" songs. Frank Sinatra and other stuff that's mellow. They just simply didn't have a dance floor. We had dinner and just hung out and talked. I think it really helped that they had their reception at a park and it was nice out, so we could all take walks in the gardens and everything. It gave us something to "do" other than just sitting and staring at each other. Her wedding was the best one I've been to - I'm thinking of having no dancing too!

One of my friends did the traditional DJ thing and had music and a dance floor section for those that wanted to dance and then in another space they hooked up the PS2 and did Guitar Hero tournaments and games. It totally fit their style and seems to be alot of fun in her pictures. I guess it depends on where your wedding is and the style you are going for.

Kind of like Kel, we hired a flamenco trio and there wasn't a ton of dancing - most people were too intimidated - but it was beautiful background music.

Hi!
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! How exciting!
I'm not too much into dancing myself, however, my husband kind of is...( not too much though). Anyway, when we planned a wedding, I didn't know what to do with it & as many MANY people explained to me: dancing is not for you, but for your guests! They need to have fun & be occupied during the event. So, we hired a DJ ( I hated the idea of a band that'll spoil my favorite hits, parading in rediculous polyester vests...) & it was really nice! Ultimately, I danced a lot as well! Well, the older generation of my parents & grandparents complained that DJ didn't play enough waltzes or slow musichmm....that can be coordinated with the DJ for your taste.
