I really like a lot of Anthropologie's hats, but I never know when or how to wear them.  For those of you that wear hats, when do you wear them?  To work?  If so, do you take them off once you're at the office?  How do you avoid hat head?  What kind of outfits do you pair them with?  What kind of hairstyle do you do when you have a hat on?

For example, I love these and would love to wear them:

I don't wear hats too much (not that I don't want to, but they look terrible on me. I only have one that looks good). But I wear it for fall and early/late winter outdoor activities - like fairs, or pumpkin picking, or the zoo, or whatever. Hat etiquette doesn't require women to take off their hats indoors, so really you could keep it on inside, but I just feel weird doing it because the brim makes a shadow that I don't really need or want with indoor lighting.

I usually do a hat on the 2nd or 3rd day of my hair without being washed (so who cares if you have hat head underneath!) I will either do one side braid, or a low ponytail or low side ponytail! I

The only hat I'll wear to work is a beret, like this sort of thing

And I'll wear it as above with my hair loose, or pull up the top in a half-up/half-down thing (the up part covered by the hat).

I find women's hats are usually too casual and "sassy" for office wear, so I usually only wear them on the weekends. I could see the first or third one with a turtleneck, cropped dress pants, and heeled boots if it isn't a corporate setting. The cable knit hat is very slouchy-casual, more for keeping your head warm than anything else, and the red trilby is cute but I have trouble coming up with an office outfit that wouldn't look like a costume of some sort. It wouldn't be something I'd keep on all day, at least - but with a black or chocolate brown dress, boots, and cream coat it would be pretty on the way to work!

I wear hats pretty much every weekend. I have a collection of them! I usually wear my hair down and loose or in a low pony tail depending on the style of hat! I'll pair them with anything. Usually a fedora with jeans anda tea or a hat like the third one with a tunic and leggings.

I love hats too - usually straight hair or pony tail underneath

I wore a beret exactly like the one on the right while running errands tonight.  I pulled and pinned my bangs straight back.  It's not such a big deal if the bottom of my hair starts to look all dented...it's barely noticeable between the collar on my jacket and my scarf wrapped around me.  But I carry a hair tie just in case.

Also, if I need a hat for warmth but know it will need to come off at some point, I'll remove it while I'm in my heated car (for example) then put it back on when I arrive and need to step back outside.  That way, the damage to the 'do is limited.
