nyc for xmas?

Has anyone ever been to NYC for xmas.  My bf is out of the country and we were thinking about meeting up in nyc for a week during xmas.  Is this a good idea?

I have never been during Christmas, but a friend of mine who lives there said that there is no place like it during the holidays. I bet you would enjoy it!

A couple of years ago my hubby and I were there the week before xmas , the city is really pretty with all the extra twinkle lights everywhere - It was fun for sure I think NY is always a great place to visit no matter what time of year!

ETA: IT WAS COLD!!!!

Thanks for the input.  We decided to go... Booked everything yesterday.  We already bought tickets for lion king and reservations for serendipity.  Anything else we need to do in advance... reservations for restaurants or sights we should see?  I have no idea what restaurants to go to.

Any suggestions would be great

we always make a trip to carmines before or after a broadway show.  it's close to a bunch of shows.  you'll have to make reservations.  http://www.carminesnyc.com/

i always eat waaay to much there.

sardis is nearby too.  touristy, but if you've never been you may want to check it out.  the bartenders know everything about broadway you can imagine.

I live in NYC - its always the best during the holidays - The parades, the lights, the huge tree, Macy's, the shopping, the hot cocoa, etc etc. You'll have a blast! Bring a warm coat and good walking shoes!
