USB/Parallel port converter for digital camera
Permalink Closed

MY USB ports are busted and so I can't get my digital pics from my camera to my computer. I was wondering if anyone knew whether getting a USB/Paralell Por converter would still enable me to upload pictures onto my computer. I know my computer is the problem because I have a USB port that still works but it's not connected to the actual computer so it can't transmit info.

Ugh. I hate technology.

the port on the computer is busted?  do you have a parallel port open/free for this?  I would assume that if there is a converter available that you would be able to use the parallel port as a usb port with it.  Am I making sense?

Yeah you're making sense.

Basically, I tried to put the USB cable into the two USB ports on the back of my laptop, but the computer didn't detect the camera as external hardware. I think they've been abused too much . I've had this computer since January 02 and it's been through a lot with me...

I have a free parallel port for this so that's not a problem. I've gotten a paralell port/USB converter working for printers, but I'm afraid it won't work with digital cameras.

Did you try installing the camera first on the computer before plugging it in?  My computer is funny sometimes and won't detect new hardware until after I install the drivers for it.  What Operating System are you running? 2000? XP?

The converter should work for the camera if it works for the printer.  As long as you can connect the parallel part to the computer and the usb part to the camera you are ok.
