Ok girls, this is kinda a sad poll, but how much are you spending on your favorite pastimes of fashion, beauty and clothes, as compared to the same time last year
I'd say I'm with you, but for more than just the economy reasons. My little one is just too hard to take on needless shopping trips these days. Plus I'm trying to "home" up the new house and that happens with my fun money now. I will say I shop sale a lot more now than ever. With growing kids I'm trying to stretch my grocery and clothing dollars.
Hard to say - I think I am spending less, and I am purposely avoiding outings to the mall.
However, I AM spending more money on our home - we just got a new piece of furniture for the living room, four large pots and assorted herbs for a contained herb garden, new drapes and hardware for our bedroom, some nice sheets for the bed...
We aren't taking any trips for a while, so I thought we could spruce up the house in exchange.
So as far as spending goes, I am probably breaking even when compared to last year.
The same as I was before, which was not much. The economy hasn't affected much personally, so it's my lack of income as always, that prevents much shopping.
Jeez, I am spending about 10% of what I spent this time last year. I just have no extra money at all.
I have switched to all drugstore brands for skincare to save $$, stopped getting my nails done, no longer get facials or any "extra's" , never eat out anymore only cook at home, even gave up my beloved starbucks. Not sure what else I can eliminate at this point ... :(
I'd say about 30% compared to last year. But also last year most of my "shopping" money went to wedding related stuff. Now it's just really hard not to be tempted with all the sales. I've still splurged on items and those are more $, but I'm buying a lot less stuff cuz it's just "on sale" or "so cute".
Maybe a little less. I make the same amount but right now have over $200 a month in bills I didn't have last year. I suppose I'm more carefull at spending it.
I definitely have increased in the beauty department. My skin is so much better with Clinique products, I'd rather cut back on clothes than have dry blemished skin!
ALOT LESS! I no longer get manis or pedis, I spend probably 30% less on beauty. I used to run out and get whatever product interested me, now I wait until there is a need. I probably spend 50% less on clothing and accessories. Part of it is the economy - I've noticed food prices going up. Another part is my lifestyle - I am paying off credit cards and spending more on my apartment.
Maybe 50% off what I spent last year, but it's not the economy. This time last year I was still trying to construct a working-girl wardrobe as opposed to a college-girl wardrobe, because I just graduated a few months prior. So by now, I have a lot of the basics and "bones" of a wardrobe and I simply don't need to add as much as I used to. I guess it helps a lot that there isn't much out there that I want right now. Nothing seems to pique my interest.
I also spend less at the salon, because I'm growing my hair out and get it cut about half as much now. I have been buying more skincare/cosmetics, but since I almost always buy drugstore brands it doesn't add up to much.
ETA: Sadly, this doesn't mean I'm spending any less money in general. I just spend it on things other than fashion/beauty lately.

Nothing. I plan to address this soon, but I have wanted to be cautious. DC was really hard hit by the economic downturn. Everyone was holding our breath for the election anyway. Now that it's over, no one is hiring because the credit markets froze. Laid off New York attorneys and Republicans from the Hill are flooding the market, and the defense industry boom came to an abrupt halt (the two biggest companies are supposed to be near bankruptcy). The Obama administration will create some new opportunities, as people leave established jobs for the Hill but that's going to take a while. In the meantime, the rumors are of layoffs and more layoffs.
More - but not in the same areas. I no longer get beauty treatments, but I'm buying a lot for my new condo, just paid to have the bathroom remodeled, and I'm not willing to give up "doing" stuff (dance lessons, triathlon stuff), and I find I'm shopping quite a bit with all the great coupons all over the place.
I do need to rein in the spending, but heck, I'm just doing my part to support the economy.
clothes, shoes for me. We have a car and truck payment , sitter for two childern, and baby expenses. Although I still get my hair colored and cut about 6-8 weeks. I cant let my gray show for too long
