ballet flats and tights

Is there any way to wear ballet flats and tights without looking like a toddler? Now that the weather is getting colder, I still want to be able to wear my skirts to work, but I'm not horribly fond of wearing heels in my office (big gravely parking I  have to walk across a couple times a day = no fun in heels). I'm trying to figure out an alternative to boots that will keep my legs from being bare in these fall months (it's only in the 50s where I live, so I'm not battling snow or anything yet)

I have thought about this as well and I have come to the conclusion that unless you have legs as long as a supermodel's there isn't. That counts me out seeing as how I am 5'3".

Well I am FAR from a supermodel, but I am 5'7" and all leg and this look doesn't work on me either.  I feel stumpy and just don't like the way it looks.

Well I'm 5'4 and do it frequently in winter. I don't always want to wear boots EVERY single time I wear dresses or skirts, so I like having them as an option. A couple of pics of me in the combo:

I do it, but only with black--as in black top, black skirt, black tights, black ballet flats with a black ribbon that laces around the ankle. Oh and hair up. I picked up the look after my trip to Paris. Ooh la la!

I do it but only with a short hem. I'm 5'4" but short torso and long legs. I've only don't it with black tights though, not sure how colored tights would look.

ooo, Carrie thanks for the pictures! You definitely don't look like a toddler - that's how I want it to look but I always think it looks wrong on me. I like that idea from your pics and from Esquiress to keep it all one color - at least the shoes and tights. I will try and report back :)

i agree that i looks less toddler-ish when you wear black or dark colored tights or nylons with your black or dark colored flats. i would think that any color be the same idea, though.
eg. white tights with white flats, etc.

I like the look when its black tights + black shoes. I guess the monochromatic look makes legs look longer?

CarrieS, those outfits are adorable! I wonder if it works only with certain sillouettes. Ttara123, have you tried it with a shorter, sort of straight lined skirt?

carries, love that second look!!

ttara- if the flats dont work for you, can you do a low wedge? I feel like its easier for me to pull off even a half inch wedge than flats.

I could never pull that look off, it would look so childish on me. I do wear a ton of colored and textured tights and if I am not wearing my boots I usually wear a closed toe platform with them.

I don't know why, but if I wear totally flat ballets + tights, I look dumpy, but I have a pair of me too's with a little wedge, and it makes all the difference in the world. They are similar to these...

I agree - a small heel can help make a difference so it doesn't come across childish.  I also agree with the black tights (or maybe dk grey or dk brown.)  I think colored tights are difficult to pull off unless you are 18.
