do you wear high heels (3 inches or over)? I was at dinner tonight and one of my friends, the queen of backhanded compliments, was talking about how she hates to wear high heels because she feels like a drag queen and guys don't like it (such a lie). But then she quickly said I could get away with it... whatever that means. I didn't ask for an elaboration because I was getting sick of her talking. She's like 5'9 and I'm 5'10.5. I think a lot of it has to do with her boyfriend being 6 feet so she'd be taller than him in shoes. I've never dated anyone under 6'3" so that's not much of an issue .

I don't care if I look like a drag queen, I'll wear my high heels no matter because I like how they make my legs look. If not heels, I'll wear just flats... I think kitten heels look frumpy on me. So do you other tall girls like to wear high heels? If not why? I'm just curious.

Nothing is sexier or more slimming than a pair of heels.  period.  She sucks.  I am 5'7", which is not really that tall.....I dated a guy who was 5'9" and I wore my tall heels around him.  I didn't care that I was taller.  My b/f now is 6'6", so that really isn't a problem.

I know someone who is the backhanded compliment queen.  She once said to me "Tara, I honestly did not recognize you because you are wearing makeup and your hair is fixed!"  I almost replied "Well, I almost didn't recognize you because you put on 20 lbs", but I decided I was a better person and just smiled and walked away.

She was probably just jealous. I am 5'8" and my BF is 6ft. and he likes it when I wear high heels, the higher the better. Any guy that doesn't like then he is insecure himself! I am sure you looked great! Maybe the boys were looking at you instead of her!

I'm not that tall (somewhere between 5'6" and 5'7", but for some reason people always think I'm taller than that, even if I'm wearing flats), but I wear heels whenever I go out.  For work, it's just more comfortable to wear kitten heels or flats (although, wedges are usually comfortable as well).   I love a great pair of heels.  My bf is only 5'10", so depending on what heels I'm wearing, I'm as tall or taller than him(he won't admit this, though ), but I don't care.

I'm sorta tall (5'9) and I wear 3" heels, and I would wear higher than 3 inches if I could properly walk in them. My height used to bug me when I was growing up but now I could care less. My bf (not my bf at the moment but we're working things out.. hopefully) is 6'2 and sometimes I feel like we're almost the same height if I am wearing heels, but I don't mind at all.  Anyways, I don't think you would look like a drag queen, you should completely forget about what your friend is saying. Btw, how da hell does height make someone look like a drag queen?

i've yet to meet a guy who didn't like a woman in heels, and most guys i know think it's hot when a tall girl wears really high heels.  i had a friend who went on for a good 10 minutes about this exact subject (though i think he might have had some sort of fetish issues) anyway you should tell your "friend" to stop dating such "short" men, then she wouldn't feel like a drag queen.

Maybe you girls can help me....

I'm 5'8 and I am so self conscious about my height.  (I know thats not that tall but maybe its because most of my friends are like 5'4 and under).  I love high high heels and I will wear them if I'm with a tall guy but if I am going out with my friends, I hate being so much taller than they are(and all of the short ass guys i come across.

I hate that I am like this and everyone tells me that they wish they were as tall as me but i just dont like it.  I'm not as bad i was when i was younger so maybe i'm making progress, but i dont know what to do to be more comfortable with this.

where are you guys finding all these tall guys?!! haha maybe its just the area that i'm from, but 5'10 is tall to me for a guy. there is an abnormally large amt of "short" guys here. anyway, i'm 5'5 and a lot of my friends consider that tall, so i have a tendency to not like wearing heels. lately though it matters less to me. lucky the guy im dating right now is 6'6!!

I am 5 ft 7 and a half and the only thing I don't like about my height is that I'm not a little taller. My mom (exact same height and proportions as myself) says that I am prejudiced against short people. I only date tall men, to me 6 ft 3 is ideal. And I wear my heels proudly. I can't understand the logic that you should accomodate men and friends in sacrifice of the beauty and confidence that heels exude. I can't imagine a world without a solid three inches attached to it.

Don't let that back handed compliment girl steal your high heel joy! I am not as tall as you, but I LOVE wearing heels, tall wedges, platforms, whatever shoes I love no matter what the height - (I always chose high though). I really don't like the kitten heel style, I personally can't / won't give up my heels. Although I do admit I love my new ballet flats. But seriously, wear what you love, only date secure men, and it shouldn't matter about your height. You'll feel better in whatever makes you comfortable. And heels were made to make your legs look longer, so indulge & enjoy!

I'm 5'11" and I wear high heels without any concern. I'm not at all self-concious about it, which I think is key. And, men totally love tall women. If her guy doesn't like her being taller than him, its probably because he is insecure.

Sometimes, because I'm really tall, I do sometimes worry that I look like a drag queen. But its only when I wear something over the top or too much makeup.

I'm not that tall (about 5'7.5", I think), but I like to wear heels. I probably only wear them 2-3 times a week due to the comfort factor (on my feet most of the day). My husband is 6'1", but I think I would wear them even if he was shorter.

My SIL is 6'0" and refuses to wear heels since she met her husband (he's 5'7") and it's a shame. I love tall women in heels!

ETA: ShanKel -- I know what you mean! I am taller than most of my friends, too, and I feel like a giant when I am out with them. But IMO, most other people don't notice it...it's one of those things we can feel self-conscious about but no on else cares.

I wear heels..

my husband is 5'11

I'm 5'8..

I generally don't do the 4inch heel thing because it's simply not comfortable for me, but I do 3 inches all the time. it puts me at the same height as my husband and I'm ok with that.

Shankel- I can totally relate..I think my tallest friend is 5'4 and it use to make my uncomfortable. I've sort of learned to appreciate my height, cause after all, most models are tall :)

Me too! (5' 2.5") I would wear them with pride, shorter boys or not...I agree that if a guy in intimidated by his height, that's his problem and yo wouldn't want to date him anyway.

I am 5'9" and I used to wear heels all the time until I met my hubby 6 years ago. He is only 5'8". (You can't help who you fall in love with!) Sometimes I still wear them b/c I love being tall.

I'm only 5'7ish but I know what you mean! I once went out with one of my short friends and we met a bunch of her short friends at a dance club and every one of them was 5'2 and under. I felt like the jolly, green giant. I was wearing heels and had a hat on. I've never been more uncomfortable in my life! I seriously felt like a huge, ugly mammoth!

That was one of the few times I've ever felt uncomfortable because of my height. (My ass is another story all together! ) How I got over it was I met a girlfriend who is over 6'. She looks great and I know it, so why in the world would I ever worry about being too tall? Once I put it in perspective, it seemed like the silliest thing to worry about.

I like men that are taller than me so I can wear my heels without worrying about it, but screw 'em. I like shoes and if they like me then that's the way it's gonna be. (That said, I try to be considerate and wear a little lower heel if I know I'm going out with a shorter guy.)

Think of it this way: the most beautiful women I know are tall. Aren't you glad to have that in common with them?

Okay, I'm 5' 8'1/2 and my husband says he's 5' 6', but I don't believe it. I liked dating tall guys, but DH and I got to know each other as friends a year before we started dating. At first I was self-conscious when we went out together, but you know what? Most people didn't even notice! People didn't realize the height difference until we told them. I don't wear high heels too much now because I have foot and back problems. I used to wear taller shoes though. (DH turned out to be a winner--I have some so-called friends that would love to get him away from me.)

The thing that bothers me is that, being tall, is that I have long feet. I wear from a 9 1/2 to a 10 1/2 shoe, depending. Something that looks great in a size 6 or 7 often looks a little weird in a larger size--sometimes the proportions aren't right. Then there is that female impersonator look.

I hate seeing a tall woman who always wears dead flat shoes. If you are tall, you are tall. If you go around in flat shoes or slumping, you don't fool anyone. I think young women are lucky to be tall today because the tall models have made it seem glamorous.

By the way, my Grandma was 5' 8'1/2 and Grandpa was 5'6". I guess she was a good example. She was always a great dresser--never went for the granny stuff. My inspiration!

People think the same thing about me.  I am about 5'6" but I have had several people tell me I am very tall.  One time a hairdresser told me that and I was wearing flats at the time.

I'm 5'9" and wish I was an inch taller, but I don't wear heels taller than 3". Partly for comfort, and partly cause I do look like a drag queen. I'm not skinny, so I think that contributes to it. I have a pair of boots with 4" heels and I really just look like a beast in them.
