hey everyone, i'm in the market for a new pair of sunglasses and i want big glam "movie star" shades. my inspiration is- i can't believe i'm admitting to this- lc and her friends on laguna beach, that mtv show. (i know, i'm a huge teeny-bopper dork...but that is a damn good show! haha)
anyone have any tips? i usually buy my sunglasses at urban because i tend to lose/break/stratch them all the time, but they don't have anything that i like right now. i'd be willing to go a little bit pricier- but nothing over like $75. if they cost a little more, maybe i'd be more careful with them. but i don't want to spend a ton because it would basically be like throwing my money out the window.
i alwasy find great sunglasses at TJ Maxx for $20 and cheaper. i have some great Kenneth Cole ones from there. I also bought a HUGE pair of black ones at ALDO recently for about $10- i dont spend much more because I lose/break them in about a month...
i used to be queen of the cheap sunglasses until i finally broke down and bought my first gucci shades abut three years ago. i'll never go cheap again. reason being i would buy about ten pairs of $10 shades from gas stations to target to urbn and loose or break them ALL. i got my first pair of gucci shades on sale with an employee discount for $100 (i thought i was going to shopping hell for spending that much on a pair of sunglasses) but i wore those glasses for two years. i didn't even "accidentally" leave them somewhere. the only reason i got another pair was because they got scratched. that being said if your not ready to make the leap to pricy eyewear (a stand i totally respect) h&m has awesome sunglasses for ten dollars. you can also try fielines basement for designer shades on the cheap.
I totally agree with dewdk...I also lost cheap sunglasses and I have a pair of Gucci's that I got a Ross for $30 and I have had them for 2 years now. I did first buy a knockoff pair of them from Walmart for $5 and I broke those. Then I bought a pair of Chanel's recently and I think b/c I know they were so expensive I am really careful with them and I cherish them so much!
Last year I found some really nice big sunglasses at Wet Seal and Anthropologie for $10-18. I would be hesitant to spend a lot on plastic frames unless I was interested in logo sunglasses (chanel, etc) which isn't really my thing since I don't care that much about logos (except the chanel ballet flats i've been coveting for years...). Just because plastic sunglasses are really cheap. My friends store sells them for around $15 and they buy them for like $3. However, I bought Ray Ban Aviator style sunglasses for around $70 on eBay. It took me a while to settle on that pair-but I definitely looked around for sunglasses for a while before picking those. Department stores are always a great place to look for mid range sunglasses, as well as pricier ones. Nordstrom had some cute ones, and I bought some cute ones from Nine West (but at Macy's) a few years ago on sale.

I agree- I have a pair of Chanel's and I am so careful with them but I love them! Think about it though- are you he kind of person who won't buy an expensive purse in case you leave it somewhere? It kind of the same concept- you're just naturally more careful with the stuff youpay more for (or at least I am)
With this style of sunglasses, I would say that buying an expensive, but well made, pair is justifiable (?). This style (Jackie O. esque) will never go out of style. I also own a pair of Chanels and I can assure you, they are worth the money.

I make an amen to this. I bought a pair of Chanels and while they weren't cheap, I have worn them every day, with virtually everything.
However, if you just want to try the style out, I think Leohmanns also has a good cheaper designer sunglasses selection.
