Vera Wang Bridesmaid Dresses?
Permalink Closed

I have been looking around at wedding dresses and I have to say I am starting to feel like they all look alike.  I like a few of Vera Wang's bridesmaid dresses (actually better than her regular dresses), but I seem to remember someone telling me that you can't just get one bridesmaid dress from her.  Is this true?  I have done a couple searches and can't really find anything about it, but I thought you girls might know.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for places to look for unique wedding dresses?  I am not too big on poofy dresses and I think I would want something with a bit of color in it like a sash of some kind.  I will most likely be getting married outside at an old farm house, so no train dragging around on the ground.  Any help you girls can give me would be greatly appreciated!

when my brother got married in november 2003, i wore a vera wang bridesmaid dress and was the only bridesmaid, and there was no trouble buying only only one dress.  it was one of the most beautiful dresses i've ever worn and i would love the chance to wear it again.

i see you live in brooklyn too (like me); i am not sure where they'd be found in new york, but i got mine at the ann bailey shop outside of philadelphia.

hope that helps!

Thanks Scarlett!  There is a Vera Wang store in the city, but I hear they are rather strict about buying their dresses at their store.  However, I do get down to Philly a lot since my fiance's mom lives there.  I hear it is easier to buy the bridesmaid dresses alone when you are not in their actual store so I will check them out.

I am in Carroll Gardens, where are you in Brooklyn?

Hey girl.  If you find one you like there is a store here in Louisiana that sells them (actually had them for $120 a few weeks ago) and you can order online from them.  The site was posted in the how much for a dress post a few weeks ago or you can google it.  Pearl's Place in New Orleans.

Thanks LSU!  I am going to have to figure out how to be sneaky and try on bridesmaids dresses.  I guess I can always say they are for my bridesmaids or bring a friend along and say I am her bridesmaid.

my friend did this because she was having a casual wedding--most places aren't too mean about letting you try on bridesmaid dresses in white even if you are the actual bride.  i mean, if it's what you want, why shouldn't you be able to get what you want? not everyone wants a poofy princess ballgown.  she ended up getting one and it was gorgeous.

hey mckenke, sorry i didn't write back earlier!  i live in park slope and have some friends in carroll gardens.  i love your neighborhood.

good luck with the dress search!  the vera wang dress i have is very well made, beautiful fabric, and well cut, and wasn't that expensive either.  i'd definitely consider wearing one for a wedding dress as well.

Just to chime in... I've heard (though haven't confirmed by asking at the Wang store)that there isn't a problem buying only one bm dress... the problem is buying one bm dress IN WHITE. Aparently, they have a policy that white bm dresses are only available when you buy 3 or more. Again, just what I've heard, but it sounds like it could be possible.

I'd look into on-line sites for buying dresses. I got a quote for one for a Watters gown I've had my eye on, and the price was approx. $400 less than retail. Not too shabby.

I wore a Vera Wang BM dress for my sister's wedding this past October and was the only one to wear a VW dress.  I went to the actual Vera Wang BM shop in Manhattan, and they were not snobby at all!  No limitation whatsoever, and the saleslady was really nice helping me pick out a dress.

the only restriction involves one bm dress in white or ivory. and as someone stated, you had to buy three if you wanted a Vera bm in white or ivory. (this can still be a lot cheaper than one wedding gown though) and you could ebay the other two. Don't know if this is still the policy, I haven't been in the bridal industry for 6 years now. Vera doesn't want someone wearing a bm dress and saying it is a vera wedding gown. SOme of the designs and cuts are almost identical.
JCrew has some good looking wedding dresses now. Jessica McClintock has some pretty simple ones.
