So after my divorce is final I want to go on a vacation to celebrate but have no clue where to go. It will likely be around April/May of next year. Want beachy where I can go diving. Must be HOT so I can lay my butt on the beach and able to travel reasonably cheapish because I'm taking my best friend along with me. I've never booked or researched a trip for myself and have no clue how to do it! I'm not even sure what a trip actually costs but I'm thinking $10,000? God I'm clueless!

10K?! Damn girl, you don't need to spend that much to have a beautiful, fun vacate. I would suggest Acapulco, Cancun, or Cabo San Lucas. All fun, affordable, and Mexican vacation towns love American tourists. I don't know about anyone else, but I prefer to go to places that I am welcome. I would suggest checking out a travel agent to help you book. AAA and Amex travel are both really good and they get great rates. HTH!!

Typically they make their profits from the discount that the resorts get them. I just booked my honeymoon through a travel agent and it ended up being cheaper than if I had booked it myself. Hotels and airlines give them discounts and they make their margin in that.

I recommend Cabo. I went there last summer for a girls vacation and had a blast. Cabo has a great nightlife as well as good beaches and all inclusive resorts.

I also love cabo!

You could do a cruise too, which I love to do because there is so many things to do! Besides 10k - even if you booked the huge suite on a cruise it wouldnt be more than 5k for both of you!

Collette - If you're looking for diving, beautiful beaches, and relatively inexpensive, I would suggest one of the following:

Cozumel, Mexico (GREAT diving)

Virgin Islands

Cabo San Lucas

I'll also suggest Tobago. A friend is living in Trinidad right now (working for WHO on gender issues!) but gets over to Tobago every couple of weeks and it's gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Very laid back too in case you're looking for quieter places.
