is anyone else prone to nosebleeds? if so, what do you recommend to prevent them?? and do u think working out will bring on a nosebleed? ...

ok heres why i ask...

i have always had  nosebleeds but its just a every once in a while thing. well i had a really bad nosebleed the other day and then had a recurring one everyday for a week after that. i went to the doctor and she said its just from dry nasal membranes and to start using a saline spray and i have been and my last bleed was on sunday....so i hate that i havent gotten to go to the gym bc of all this and i was wondering if it would be ok for me to work out now? on tuesday?  i dont know, im just soo scared of going to the gym and then having nosebleed while im on the treadmill or something, ha ha, that would be embarrassing and scary!

My brother used to get terrible nosebleeds in the middle of the night.  The kind where you wake up and your bed looks like a murder site.  He puts vasoline in his nose at night to keep it moisturized and uses a humidifier.

I did the same thing. Not sure where you are from but in Michigan the humidty is about 2%, so the air is soooo dry.

I know what you mean about being afraid to go places. My freshman year of college I lived in a dorm- our power went out in the dorm, so my alarm didn't work and we didnt have any lights. I was late for a test, so I put my hair in a pony tail, brushed my teeth and ran to class because I was late for a test. A few peopel were looking at me funny, but I assumed it was because I was running at full speed through campus. I got to class and when I walked in EVERYONE just starred at me. My prof said "Ryan, What happend?" I said "We didn't have any power in the dorm." He said "No, what happend to your face?" I
I had gotten a nose bleed in the middle of the night and I had dry blood all over my face. Anytime my nose runs now. I am constanly afraid it is bleeding.

i agree that a humidifier is your best bet- especially during the winter when the heated air in your house is probably extra dry.  i don't get frequent nosebleeds, but a few months ago i had a really bad one (it kept going and going and i thought i was bleeding to death or something) and the doctor told me to get a humidifier and that definitely worked.  also, make sure you are hydrated- drink LOTS of water.  i don't know if this is connected at all to nosebleeds, but i think i was severly dehydrated the day that i got mine.

when you do get one, pinch your nose where the cartilage meets the squishy part (i think "squishy" is a clinical term, haha) and lean forward a little bit.  pinch tightly for at least 10 minutes, then check to see if the bleeding has stopped.  you can also put ice on your forehead and behind your ears- this constricts the blood vessels.

if you have severe nosebleeds all the time, your doctor might need to cauterize.  i know several people who have had to do this.  it's painful, but it solves the problem.  (they basically burn the skin so that it gets thicker and the blood vessels aren't so close to the surface of the skin- yeow!)

hope this helps!  i know how you feel- nosebleeds can be scary.

I just recently started gettting them. I have had 4 now, I woke up one am and my pillow was all bloody...scary. I never thought I would start to get these at 28! I use vaseline and it works well. I also have started to take a non-drying sinus medicine when my allergies act up and that has helped.
