i was just thinking i wanted to start a thread on this show! sometimes i find it so incredibly depressing and sad that it is hard to watch. other times i laugh out loud. i am fascinated by it because i can't believe people who think and act like this actually exist! it is so horrifying to watch this kind of parenting. in many cases, the parents are more immature than the child. in other cases they are so obviously trying to buy the child's love or buy popularity for their child and it comes through in the most pathetic ways. even the kids' friends at the party know it is over the top and dumb. it is a sickness, truly. i mean, a $200,000 sweet sixteen? i think that hart's dad spent $250,000 - most weddings don't cost that much! i didn't even know that people even celebrated sweet sixteens anymore - thought it was really an 80's kind of fad.
i'd also like to add that not all of the families on this show are filthy rich - some are middle class or maybe lower middle class, which makes it even more sad because they are spending everything they have for a 16 year old's party.
i guess overall i'm totally surprised by this show - they are either going way out of their way to find the studpidest people around and exaggerate their stories, or there is a lot going on in american culture that i never realized was there!

You know what? I had never even heard of a guy having a sweet sixteen before. When I was 16, it was just girls who had them. Some had them in banquet halls with DJ's and stuff, but mostly they were at people's houses. And I doubt that any of the parties I went to cost that much money. These people are nuts!
And did you see on the Hart episode when the girl at the party said about the dancers, "Ew! They're like 25. Why are they doing that?" Ha! Like 25 is so old!
HAHAHA!! Did anyone see last night's episode with that girl who kept calling herself 'the perfect diva'? OMG!!!!! I was dying. She kept calling herself a celebrity and a diva and she doesn't even live anywhere near LA!! She is from Atlanta and I had never heard of this girl before. What a nutbag! Oh and the best part of the whole thing was that it wasn't even a Sweet Sixteen party, it was a Sweet FIFTEEN party. WTF? People are ridiculous.
I just don't understand what these girls (and guys) have to look forward to if this is what their sweet sixteen birthday parties are. Prom?? Weddings?? What's so special about those when you have a birthday party like this? I just don't get it. For my sixteenth birthday, I had a pool party with about 30 people there. And that was just fine with me. We had a great time and the only thing we spent money on was a cake decorated like a volleyball court b/c I played v-ball in high school. And I did get a car for my 16th, but it was my mom's old car b/c she bought herself a new car (which was also fine with me, since I was the only one of my friends with wheels).
I agree with whoever said that they are glad that they were taught work ethics and that hard work will (eventually) pay off. These kids on this show are being done a great disservice by their parents. They are whiny and spoiled and I want to smack them!!!!
I've only seen a few episodes & couldn't believe my eyes. I just think it's sad that these kids have no concept of $$$. Not all wealthy families have obnoxious spoiled kids like this, but MTV did a great job of portraying them to be beyond over-the-top.
Did anyone see the marathon yesterday that had commentary with the people?? My fav moments from the show were:
1st. ep Jaqueline and Lauren- the blonde's horrible extensions...
After seeing the other shows they were the least bitchy...update the blonde dyed her hair dark brown and lost the extensions...one more step of her trying to be like her friend.
2nd Ep. Jaque...her mom...and how they totally embarresed her about her crush. I would have dyed at that age after seeing that, but she was good!
3rd Ep. AVA---oh lord where do I start: but when her mom called and cancelled her card and she got the last 4 charges that totalled 10K....ahh....
4th Ep. Hart- took my love of the collar up on guys away....so wrong now...oh and " we are in a 400,000 car..."
5th Ep. Natalie- oh lord jessica simpson wannabe...." so this party will make me totally popular and that is what I wanted!" her poor friends just seemed in awe of her...
6th Ep. Sierra- An embarresment to Hotlanta....her parents totally help her with her diva image though.
I tried really hard not to watch it because I knew it would just piss me off. I just wanted to scream at Ava she was such a mess. I couldn't take her. Jaqueline, Lauren and Jaque all seemed to be pretty mild compared to the other people.

ahh this is yet another mtv show that just sucks you in (kind of like laguna freakin beach)
anyways jackie & lauren were my favorites. her new brown hair is really cute. the others made me want to kill myself, especially hart & that sierra girl who thinks she's a diva b/c her dad is a rapper nobody has heard of. most of them kind of made up for their shows during the commentaries but sierra's just made me want to slap her more.
i watched part of two episodes. the one with the girl with the huge nose and the bad attitude and the rags to riches blonde. both scared the hell out of me.
first the fact that these kids are blowing that much money on a party is insane, but i guess no crazier then beyonece spending 15 million on her birthday. *sigh* i find the excess on these shows to be absolutly repugnant, however i still suscribe to the belife that how one spends ones money can not be juged but tacky ignorance can be.
when did ignorance and rude behavior become the thing to admire. paris hilton acts like a snotty slut and she gets a televison show. these kids throw silly tacky pretentious parties with attutdes and ignorance that litrally make me cringe and they get a show. omarossa sets the image of african american women back by 50 years and she gets invited to awards shows and back to the apprentice. basically these shows say if your rich you can act like an asshole and buy your way out of any trouble or buy your way into happiness. i say read a book, help out some underprivlaged people, study a foreign language, learn a craft and try to act like self actualized human being vs a greedy ignorant vicious brat. until then i watch the discovery channel and tivo all my law and orders because this reality tv shit is disgusting.
sadly, i have been sucked into this series. nothing in my mind has topped "ava's" party... b/c she was SUCH A SPOILED BRAT... my jaw just dropped when she said "so we went to PARIS to purchase my dress for the party" and then all the shops were closed b/c it was August and everyone knows that all the parisians close up shop in august to go on holiday... but not the snob-a-rific AVA... hysterical... i can't stand these kids and yet i keep on watching... just what MTV wants right?
oh oh and when she was in the (god forbid) USED range rover... "eewww it's used???" get a FREAKING life girl...
I, too, have been watching this show, and I am not surprised at this kind of stuff. I'm 16 and a lot of people at my school throw parties like this for their 16th birthday. While I certainly don't agree with it, the whole aspect didn't really surprise me.
But I'm telling you, watching this show really made me wish my family had, at least, taken me out to eat on my 16th :P
I watched the one with Ava and the one with Hart. Ava was terrible, completely immature spoiled brat. I can't imagine what kind of rich adult this person will turn into.
I was appalled, not because she was a brat in general, because lots of 16 year olds really are, but because she has not been taught any humility about her wealth and power by her parents.
I think Ivanka Trump is a good example of a well behaved rich girl, have you seen interviews with her?
Shame on Ava's parents, they need to send her to some kind of community service mission or something and give her the gift of perspective.
