My husband, a friend of ours, and I will be going to the David Byrne concert at the Michigan Theatre next week.  I'd like to do dinner before the show.

I know Seva is really close -- do you think that the food is hearty enough to please meat eaters?  I also thought about going to Blue Nile, but I don't really feel like eating all that spongy bread (even though I love it, as well as the mead....)

On the flip side, our friend hasn't been to Dominick's, and my husband and I like going there -- I kind of want to go there just so our friend can see the 60's time capsule that it is, and I know I can get by with something there (even if it's a cheese pizza.)

thoughts? suggestions?

Seva does have several Hearty dishes (The Couscous got a great review from DH). I lunch there about once a week, and I see quite a few folks there that one wouldn't expect (business men who you just know aren't vegetariean) and they seem to leave full. The portions are pretty large so I think the hardest part would be getting these hearty meat eaters to accept that they will be at a vegetarian restaurant. If you do go there, leave some extra time. The service isn't fast.

Cafe Habana is also close. They have several veggie options and the food is unique for those unfamiliar with Cuban foods.

The Earle will always be a favorite. They usually just have a few veggie options, but they are always good, and with a wine list like that, I always forgive :) It's a tad further, but still walking distance.

Quarter Bistro and Zingermans Roadhouse are also good picks, but they aren't downtown. You'd have to drive from Jackson road to downtown.

The mainstays on Main street are always good, but I find them rather boring (with the exception of The Prickly Pear, but it really doesn't offer a pre-theater experience).

Well, we went to Dominick's first, sat inside (too cold out!) and shared a 1/2 gallon mason jar of Two Hearted Ale.

My husband wasn't sold on going to a vegetarian restaurant, and since he hadn't been to Old Town yet, we ended up eating there.  I had a HUGE vegetarian wet burrito that was wonderful -- for only $7!  Everyone seemed to be happy with the restaurant/bar choice of Old Town so it worked out.  I'll get more adventurous restaurant-wise when I'm only with my husband in the future...  However, I was thrilled to find such a great vegetarian value at Old Town!

The concert was FAN.TAS.TIC.  It was especially good because it leaned toward performance art with the dancers.  When he sang Burning Down the House, the balcony was literally bouncing -- I was afraid it was going to collapse!  All in all, a fabulous show.  I really like the Michigan Theater for concerts -- it's an intimate atmosphere and there really are no bad seats.  I'm regretting not having been more aggressive in getting Raconteurs tickets when they played there...
