I was recently given an opportunity to get out of my lease and move to a safer, nicer place that is 10 miles from my office (I currently live less than a block from my office).
I'll be living with a former classmate of mine. Her parents recently bought a townhouse for her and she has two empy bedrooms which are very small.
I currently live in an efficiency -- it's one big open room with a kitchen. Right now it's set up like a glorified bedroom; there is a love seat at the foot of my full-sized bed and then a credenza with six squared shelves where I keep books, dvds and kick knacks and on top I have my TV and DVD player.
The bedroom I'd have is like I said, very small. There is a large double window and a large closet with double doors. The love seat would go in the basement where we have a small office set up.
Currently, my bedroom furniture consists of a chest of drawers, nightstand and bed with a large headboard. I'm thinking I'd have to ditch the nightstand and swap it out with a lighter side table with shelves. And put the chest of drawers in the closet and then put clothes around it.
Next up is the large credenza. You can get an idea of it in this picture.
I'd like to keep it in the room and put my TV on it, but I think it's going to be way too crowded in there with my bed and thus may wind up in the basement with the love seat and be my little tv/chill nook ... good for if my friends come over and my roomie's friends are already in the main living area.
Any ideas or input? I also need ideas for new bedding. I have khaki curtains that I really like. I'm thinking something bright and fun, but also grown up. I thought about chocolate brown sheets with a fun white/orange floral motif. I also need a corkboard or a wire feature to hang photos and postcards.
In a way, I'm losing some of my personal space, but this new space will be brighter and I'll have more space in the long run because I'm sharing a townhouse in a much nicer area and I'm paying less than what I am now for rent and utilities combined!
Can you put the TV on the chest of drawers instead of putting it in the closet? You could put the credenza in the closet and use it for shoes or sweaters or whatever.
I like the little table and I'd keep it if you can. OTOH, maybe something with closed storage would be more practical.
What's your headboard like?
I vastly prefer dark-colored sheets for some reason. They feel cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This would be nice with brown sheets (Dwell for Target)
I'm pretty sure West Elm has some bedding in the orange/brown family.
The table would replace my nightstand, which is rather large and clunky. Although ... I currently have cables and computer things stored in the bottom drawer, but I could get some baskets and keep them in the closet.
The closet is big .... there are double doors on it.
I'm going to look at some second hand places and places like TJMaxx too.
I also really like this table. From Making it Lovely Blog.
