okay okay okay.. i know that these things don't really last forever, but does anyone else have a hard time throwing out their old makeup? i think my problem is i own so much that it's hard for me to throw it out because i rarely ever finish a lipstick to the end of the tube, use an entire eyeshadow, or finish a blush. i have no problem tossing mascara after three months or getting rid of something when it's separated.
but what's the rule on powders, foundations, blushes, eyeshadows, etc........ ???
Unless something changes color/texture/smell, it should be fine to keep. As long as you are washing/replacing your application tools regularly, your products should stay clean and usable.

I keep most of my makeup until it is done but starting last month I am going to throw away my mascara religiously every 3 months like a good girl because I got a stye (not sure if it was from mascara but it was over 6 months old).

Throwing out makeup is literally the most cathratic thing ever...probably even more so than throwing away clothes. I jsut threw away 60% of my makeup because I was hoarding it (why it's traveled through three different states and across the country in the past 5 years, I couldn't tell you)...all these icky GWP things and colors that just would never look good on me and loads of lipsticks...I NEVER wear lipstick.
I will throw something away if it smells funky or separates or does something really weird...I've only started to really use makeup on a regular basis recently, but I've only ever finished maybe a few lipgloss tubes. I don't use mascara but if I did, it would be out the door in three months.
