i had to come online quickly to post it - we were going to go out for dinner but our favorite Japanese place was booked until 10pm

it was SOOO EASY and very delicious.  V and I can't get enough of it, and I can't wait until the next time I make it.

filet mignon with madeira sauce

http://www.recipezaar.com/48769

3 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons olive oil 3/4 lb sliced mushrooms 1/2 chopped onions 2 cloves chopped garlic 1 teaspoon thyme salt and pepper 4 filet mignon 1/2 cup madeira wine 1/2 cup beef broth 1/2 cup heavy cream

  1. in skillet heat 2 tbsp butter with oil.
  2. add mushrooms, garlic and onions, cook until lightly browned, remove, season with thyme,, salt, pepper.
  3. add the rest of the butter and oil to skillet, brown fillets about 5 minutes per side for medium rare, remove.
  4. add madeira to pan, reduce by half.
  5. add broth and reduce, add cream and stir to thicken.
  6. add mushrooms back to pan, add filets to warm through.

i served this with

-french bread

-broiled asparagus w/ butter and lemon

-sauteed string beans and red pepper strips in olive oil

-roasted garlic mashed potatoes

dessert:

homemade chocolate covered strawberries

my belly is singing right now and my house smells like madeira wine mmmmmm

hope you all had a great night!

Yum!  If I liked cooking, I would definitely consider making that.  I went for Japanese food tonight.  Where is your favorite Japanese restaurant.  I looooove Japanese food.

BTW, did you realize there is an ad in your post?  That is so funny.

I was there last night!  Our reservation was at 8.  That would have been so cool if we saw you there!

Yes.  It was full the whole time.  They wouldn't let us have a private table unless we were only eating sushi, but I don't know if that was because it was busy or if they always do that.  I've never been to Kiku before.  We have so many good Japanese places by me that I never ventured that far (not that it's far...).
