I have been eyeing this top at Nordstrom, and I think I want to get it, but any other outfit ideas besides jeans and white pants? I have yet to find any white pants that look even decent on me.
If I had a levitating purse, maybe I could pull off the white pants, but, alas, I don't.
i really, really like that top. i think it's a little limiting but you can make it work if you pretend it's not so bold and specific and work it with odd stuff. For example, if you're not comfortable with white jeans, maybe white cargo pants with that top and a really flat strappy metallic sandal could be cute - you'll need to be really, really specific on the pocket detailing on the cargos but i've seen it done with long camisoles/chemises in silk and it's a great look. I also think you could do a very dark wash trouser jean, like the new ones from BR (or the Joe's, which I have on "New Outfits" archive on my site, stylediary.net) - working it with a low heel shoe. I like the idea of it with honestly a terry pant - like i know this sounds pretty bold but I'd work it, maybe even in a very light baby pink or something - experiment with the colors. I would consider it too with a cuff jean - it's long so it may not work because it'll leave it unbalanced but give it a shot with a heel that has some height to it, maybe even a metallic wedge, which Coach has some really cute and reasonably priced ones right now. I'd even try that over a skirt - it'll be a tough one because it's going to depend on how long it is on your frame but with like maybe a mid-thigh denim mini with a ragged hem or even a bit of distressign with a flat closed toe shoe in a metallic would be adorable. Or even with a fuller style that hits mid-thigh, like Mischa Barton did with her nikka tunic.
I like this item. I like that it sort of plays on the batik and the metallic trends but is still a bit sexy and streamlined - it's a fantastic piece!
how tall are you? for some reason i'm thinking that this type could be worn by itself as a dress. based on the pic. imo the model could wear it as a dress (a mini dress, but it doesn't seem insanely short), which makes me think it might hit a regular person right around the knee area (or slightly higher). i would probably wear it like that (with a pair of boy shorts underneath) and cute strappy sandals (either flat or with a heel depending on the situation.)
LMonet: I like those pants from Anthro. I may try and see if they have them at the B&M in downtown Seattle when I am there this weekend.
mischiefandmayhem: I didn't even think about a mini! this will be the first summer in a long time that I won't be embarrassed to show off my legs. I may have to play around with that. I also like the terry pant idea.
I may just have to buy the top and try it with different things. I fear I may be too short to really pull it off confidently (I am 5'), but I can always just return it...
that is a fabulous top! Definately try it with white jeans- they might fit you better and I've seen a lot of them around recently. Would look nice with a very dark jeans as well.
I think it'll be a good buy. It's disruptive, which is what I call pieces like this, that sort of present a challenge and you're not entirely sure but love. I add in things along this line from time to time - stuff that I'm like "wow I have no idea how to wear this but I love it!" and what I have found works really well for me is to just sort of force myself to experiment with it. Like, I will take it out and just work it with anything and everything that comes to mind - lay it near your jeans and see what washes look best, try it with short pants, long skirts, you name it. Heck, even belt it - you never know. This will help you identify a few good ways to wear it, and after a while, you'll get really skilled with it to where you can pull new ideas together very quickly.
