I need a new couch, but I'm looking to keept it under $700. I saw one similar to this that was a dark chocolate color, which I loved, but it was too expensive.
I'm not exactly sure I'm a velvet (polyester) kind of girl, but I hate couches that are made of microfiber. I really want a leather couch, but my roommate has a cat (with his back claws) and so I think that's out of the question.
Our living room has mostly dark furniture, so I want a lighter colored couch to balance things out. The wall behind where the couch would go is painted a dark tan/light brown color, so I'm not sure this would look nice in front of that. I suppose I could always repaint the wall.
Is this one cute? I like it, but I showed it to one of my friends and she wasn't a fan. We've been without a couch for three weeks, and so I am getting a bit desperate.

Our couch is really similar in style, though it's dark green microsuede. I like the shape, but ours has fewer pillows on the back and I still wish it was tight-back (no pillows at all) because it's hard to keep straightened up. Also, the arms are too high for napping!
'Microfiber' is a very large fabric category - I know there are some not-so-cute looking ones but some are very nice and they're just awesomely functional. There are lots of finishes out there, so don't discount them all yet!

Not a fan. I don't like the arms, the feet, or the pillows on the back.
In my experience, microfiber/ultrasuede wears terribly, so it's good to avoid it.
I don't think the cat makes leather out of the question (cats don't scratch much with their back paws) but it would certainly be more expensive than fabric.
Oh, and I forgot to add that I had a cat and she was no problem with out leather sofa. She like to sit on top of it too. The only scratch she put on it was from getting spooked.
Carrie Bradshaw: The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.
Thanks ladies! I'll go check it out in the store. Maybe the photo is just taken badly and it looks less shimmery in real life? Anyways, I will continue the search. I think I was just feeling a bit desperate.
Courtney - Yes, I hate the rug and pillows! So ugly. They probably are making it look cheaper.
Elle - I promise I'll look at some microsuede couches. I've only had experience with a set of microsuede couches my mom bought, and I hated them.
Also, even though I could buy a leather couch now, I think it would be out of my budget. I've never seen a cheap leather couch that I've liked.
