Do you mostly buy complete outfits or do you buy single items and just hope you can find something to match. I have been trying to do the outfit approach, but I have my eye on a pair of pink pants that actually "fit" me well. But, I will have to look for a top.
I don't usually buy things specifically that go together, but most of the time I try to think of things that I already have that will go with it before I buy it. Although that was not the case with the fabulous orange shoes I bought this weekend that I have NO idea what to wear with...
I don't buy whole outfits because I very rarely re-wear the same outfit combo. But I refuse to buy anything that won't fit into at least 4-5 combinations.

There is no method to my madness. If I see something I like and I can afford it, I usually buy it regardless if it goes with the rest of my wardrobe. This is not a good method because most of my impulse buys are resold on Ebay. I'm trying to be better though... I try to think about if something will work with what I already have, in what situations would I use it, and do I already have something like it.
i always buy single pieces. i don't know the last time i bought an outfit. i have a runnign mental list of things that i'm looking to add to my wardrobe and try to buy those things.

I like to buy an outfit every once in a while, but usually my rule of thumb is: if I can think of three outfits to make with a piece, it's worth buying. So usually I end up buying more separates than outfits.
I try to buy outfits, but many times I don't end up wearing them together because I find that each piece matches something at home better. I am also obsessed with having balance in my wardrobe, like I can't buy 3 tops without buying at least one bottom. And the bottom has to go with at least one of the tops.
I usually buy pieces and put the outfits together. Very few times do I buy a whole ensemble but if i do it is usually a suit or something that is already but this is so rare
a mix of both. i try to not buy things that require me to make additional purchases, so usually i'll kind of do a quick overview in my mind of what i have that works with something i am eyeing before i buy it. this is mainly because if i buy something that I don't have supporting pieces to wear, it means an additional investment. i never, ever let stuff go unworn in my closet. i'll make myself pull it out and work with it before i let my money go to waste, or i'll sell it, give it away, etc. - i try to be really diligent about it.
sometimes i don't mind if i have nothing else to go with something i want - i want the piece that bad! but a lot of times i'll take a pass on it or wait for it to go on sale. i never buy anything without thinking this way though. there are a lot of times i'm perfectly fine with something that i know i'll need to buy other stuff for. that's part of the fun of adding in something disruptive like that!

I can't recall the last time I purchased a coordinated outfit. I'm always buying individual pieces & tend to stick w/solids w/the occassional printed piece.

I'm the same way. I have so much stuff in my closet that I don't have to normally buy an entire outfit.
I usually buy single pieces that I know will match with the rest of my wardrobe. That said there are times when I've just bought a piece that I love and make it work with my wardrobe. This past weekend though I did end up buying an outfit because there was no way anything else would match the stripes in the pants if I didn't get the shirt.
