NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I read about this on her website the other day, but I just wanted to believe that it wasn't true. That she wasn't serious about putting it on hold. Now that it is on Yahoo I am really scared. I don't know about you girls, but I REALLY NEED to hear Edward's side of the story. I read the manuscript she posted to her site and I will be so sad if she doesn't finish it. She needs to do it: for her fans!!!
Stephenie Meyer drops new book after Web leak
Wed Sep 3, 9:32 AM ET
CANBERRA (Reuters Life!) - Author Stephenie Meyer, writer of the best-selling young adult "Twilight" books, has put the fifth and final installment in the series on hold in protest after a partial draft was posted on the Internet.
Meyer, the U.S. author of "Twilight" and its sequels "New Moon," "Eclipse" and "Breaking Dawn," said she had a good idea of how the leak of "Midnight Sun" had happened as so few copies had left her hands and each was unique.
The novel tells the love story of a human teenager named Bella and her vampire lover, Edward.
"The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to trusted individuals for a good purpose. I have no comment beyond that, as I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution," she wrote in a posting on her website.
But Meyer, 34, said this was a huge violation of her rights of an author as well as her rights as a human being as she owned the copyright and had the say when the book should be made public.
She said musicians and filmmakers also had the same rights and it was dishonest of anyone to download material off the Internet and to reproduce and distribute it.
"This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control," wrote Meyer.
"I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on "Midnight Sun," and so it is on hold indefinitely."
Meyer said the draft that was released on the Internet was incomplete with messy and flawed writing but she was making this draft available to everyone to be a fair and because it added a new dimension to the "Twilight" story.

i've been whining about this for a few days now. Edwards side would be great. i read what she posted and i need her to finish it too. i hope she gets over it. i was looking forward to the whole series from his point of view. he views himself as such a monster, and it's so difficult for him to be with bella, it just makes me like him more.
i'm 31, married, and have a crush on a fictional 17 year old vampire.

Don't feel bad, I am MADLY in love with Edward. So much so that my BF (who also reads the books) has given me a pass to run off with him should we find out that he is a) real and b) hopelessly in love with me. HA!! He also said that I shouldn't beat myself up about the age difference because he really isn't 17
She MUST finish that book. I enjoy Edward's side so much more...

i'm glad i am not the only one who wants to run away with edward...
i was also super bummed to hear this news, but i bet after she gets over it she'll finish it + publish it. i can't imagine why anyone would pass up the $$.
I'm hoping she is just bluffing trying to gauge interest to get them to publish it. Maybe the publisher doesn't think enough books would sell since it's the same story...which is dumb to me but hey look how many other publishers didn't even have interest in the story..I bet they are kicking themselves for not being interested in Twilight now that it's making so much money lol. I'm hoping there is enough uproar from the fans that she will come to her senses.

I saw her on the Ellen Degenerous show and she never mentioned that she wasn't going to do it..... So I'm hoping she does go through with it! Did you know that she had a dream about this story and just started writing it down and thats how it became a book?
I read the 260 pages posted on her site and I need to read the rest!!!! I was really wanted to read the part about Edward and Bella in their meadow from Edward's perspective, I'm so bummed that she cut it off before that part.
I think she'll publish the book still though, at least I really really hope she does.
You ladies aren't the only ones in love with a 17 year old vampire, swoon.
When I went to her site, all I got was the first chapter. Are the first 260 pages still up? Or am I just looking in the wrong place? I hope she finishes it too!!!!!

Hey everyone just an fyi from her site. looks like she is working on Midnight Sun now.
June 2008 Update: In response to the outrageous number of emails that I have received with questions concerning Midnight Sun, I talked to Stephenie this weekend and she asked me to let everyone know that Midnight Sun is her next project. She has not yet finished writing it (and there is no timeline set up, so we all need to put a lot of effort into being patient for a while longer), but she is definitely still planning on having it published. And, after Breaking Dawn comes out, Stephenie will have much more time to focus on writing Midnight Sun.
