Sorry for this random posting, but has anyone ever taken an online class? Good or bad experience? Anything you think instructors can do to make it better? (I'm going to teach online and I'm trying to prepare - I've never taken an online course).

Im taking 3 right now. Its fine as long as you keep up with your assignments & not try to cram 10 chapters in for the midterm. I speak from experience of course!
Print everything out, write in a assignment calander & check your email frequently.
I got my post-bacc online...20+ hours. My suggestions:
-follow the standard teaching routine: reading/notes, practice, evaluation. We had 10 assignments per semester (one/week), a midterm, a final, and a paper. We would read the section designated (50 pages or so), then read the prof's "notes" (usually a clarification of the reading) and then apply it in a short writing assignment. The profs at my school were required to make you re-do the assignment if you didn't fully meet the expectations (so students either fail or have 100%).
-also, the most helpful thing for me was to have comments on my assignments. I had one prof who took the time to relate an anecdote, or make a suggestion for every discussion question, the whole year. It was so helpful...actually, I learned more from her than from a lot of teachers I had in person.
