so i didn't get a gift for the wedding i just went to.  no one did.  we had about 1 weeks notice.  so i'm not a bad friend... yet.

can i get her a gift certificate to a store she registered at or should i just send $$$ ?  and what's the going rate for spending on a friends wedding?  100?

i was not in the wedding if that makes a difference.

It depends on how close of a friend you are.  If you send a gift card or money instead of an actual gift, I would also send a bottle of wine (just to make it a bit more personal).  I think $100 sound reasonable if you're giving money or a gift card, but you could probably get away with giving them a $50-$75 gift.

you can still buy something off the registry if you want.  I mean most registries you can buy online and have it sent to them.  This is the one you had very little info for right?

Right now since I'm in school I spend around $20 for shower gift and $25-30 for wedding gift so total is around $45-50.

according to what i have been told, you have up to a year after the wedding to send a gift.  so i think people usually keep their registries open after the wedding for that reason (in case you wanted to buy something from the registry).

another "rule" i have heard is that if you're giving cash you should at least give enought to cover the cost of your plate (how you find out what they're paying a head for the dinner, i'm not sure -- who makes up these rules?)

i think how much you spend really depends on how good a friend and what your budget is, but if $100 sounds good to you, it's a totally socially acceptable amount.
