I had tickets to go out to DC for a friends birthday Feb 5-13. However, plans changed, and i have to go now on Jan 31-Feb 6. I called United to see how much it would cost to change the ticket, and the agent told me it would be $1500 on such late notice because she had to reticket, blah blah blah.
So I used some of my miles to get this ticket because everything I saw was at least 800 on this short of a notice. I used a lot of miles, but I need to go to DC.
Turns out, it would only cost me $100 to change the ticket! I went online to cancel my itinerary, and the website told me that the change was only $100. And when I called to get my miles refunded, they wanted to charge me $100 for that. So I just kept my mileage award tickets, instead of paying $200 to change my original ticket and canceled the original ticket.
I am in an Organizational Systems class and yesterday we actually looked an United. A lot of people agree with you and feel the same way you do. We looked at their company structure and to be honest after all that I learned im surprised they are still in business.

i refuse to fly any airline that begins with a u after my christmas debacle. i know that united and u.s. airways are different, but i forget which is which, and it sounds like both kind of suck.

I made the mistake of taking United and USAir when going home during my first year of college (from middle of nowhere VA to Newark). Never again will I do that. Somehow I ended up getting booked on nonexistent flights.
I took Delta after learning this, and while they suck too, they suck a little less.
I have a major beef with Northwest. I won't go into the whole story, because it's long and ridiculous, but they lost my luggage. I was going to my friend's wedding and I ended up having to go to Target and buy a hideous outfit to wear to her wedding because I only had the clothes on my back. It was a nightmare. I don't know how any airlines stay in business.
