Is airbrush tanning the kind you do in the booth with the mist?

Yes, I should have said spray on tan. I am thinking of the booth and the mist.

I did it. Overall, I had mixed feelings.

On the good side: it is very even and very simple, it wasn't too expensive

On the bad side: it didn't last any longer than self-applied self tanner, I got a lot of warnings that it would be darker than stuff you put on yourself, so I chose "light" and it wasn't dark enough, it is messy because you can't shower for like 7 hours and it smells a little funky, and most of all, I personally didn't like being in the booth and getting misted. You aren't supposed to let the stuff up your nose, in your eyes, etc., so you have to hold your breath and keep your eyes closed and wear nose plugs and not move for 1 minute will it mists you. Of course, as soon as the freezing cold mist hit me I took a huge deep breath and opened my mouth and then my nose plug came out and I had to try to put it back in, which meant I was worried that my tan wouldn't be even because my arm was in front of my face for like ten seconds.

Then again, I am a total spazz.

I just did the spray tan last night for the first time. I must say it was terrifying. The whole booth fills up with mist and I inadvertently opened my mouth to breathe (because when you know you shouldn't breathe, that's when you have to breathe the most!)...so I got a mouthful of foul-tasting tanning mist. I thought I could get a breath during the 10 seconds they give you to turn around, but the booth was still full of mist, so I ended up inhaling more.

Also. I smell. I still smell. I showered four hours after I got sprayed as instructed. Then I showered this morning. And I still smell. My fiance described it thusly: "you smell like somebody ironed you." Very weird, but totally true. That's the exact smell. When will this go away?

Anyway, it did work...I am noticeably tanner and it was so quick...I'll probably do it again someday. I just need time to recover. I have major issues with not being able to breathe, so it's probably not the best option for me. I hope I didn't scare you too much, because for normal people I'm sure it's a piece of cake. I'm just not normal.

It doesn't go away until after the tan is gone. It actually smells the worst when you are in contact with water. I hate the side affects of mystic tan and refuse to ever do it again! Oh have you noticed that deoderant doesn't mix well either with the stuff. I swear I had the worst bo ever and it didn't matter how much deoderant I applied over it it just didn't go away.

I'm sorry, that sounds awful! But I am also sooooooo glad I'm not the only person in the world who had this experience. If there had been a hidden camera in the booth, I could have been on a tv show or something just for the pure comedy of my reaction.

It doesn't matter what you do you are going to inhale the crap. Just blow your nose afterwards and q-tip your ears. I've made it without breathing and still managed to get it in my nose.
